First Viewing
Today I made a fairly short trip to view a 2002 Bug STi. It's the first STi I've managed to see and was advertised with a FSSH. The cambelt should have been changed and also the pads, disks and clutch. It turned out the car was missing two services prior to its last in the summer of 2009 and was due a service now. It would appear that the services have been done at the correct milage intervals, but not on the timing intervals causing the two lost services. Additionally there was no paperwork to prove the clutch, pads and disks had been done.
The interior was pretty good but the paint needed some work as well as the front lights which seemed to be suffering from some sort of algae type coating?? The rear tyres were also some of Asia's finest and would need changing if I were to avoid the ditches..........
I guess I have to ask, am I being too picky? I appreciate I'm going into a territory occupied by 8 year old cars, but is it too much to try and seek a good all round car?

I would wait for the right one.
The cheap tyres and missing services spell trouble and a lack of care/maintenance.
Plenty out there for little money - find a one owner, loved, example.
Be prepared to pay proper money for the right one, good'uns are getting rarer.

Well if someone is trying to pull a fast one they are going to a lot of trouble as it has an STi engine in it, gauges, shift light, interior etc. However I'm no expert so happy to get some education

£3795 is what We Buy Any Car would give if it is as decribed ..... a price between that and the £6,000 asking price would be a fair amount IMO.
That's about £4900 - or £5000 as a nice round figure ... and that may well buy it in the current market.
BUT, it's only worth it if you want it - you could pay the same private and get something a whole lot better!

It's the correct spec for a 2002 STI.
dunx
P.S. Chisel them down on price due to service history... bargain !

I really don't think they'll shift on price so I'll see what else comes up. It might get to the point where they have to shift it and reduce it anyway.

you missed an absolute minter off here last week mate, think it went for 6 in the end - best bug I've seen! I'm not a bug fan, but this one looked mint! Was quite well known on here I think! As said, it's a buyers market at the minute - the only advice is check out insurance first. I'm after a blob at the minute, I'm 36 and been quoted £1200 fully comp! Had a classic a couple of years ago and was paying £340 fully comp!

Insurance is a joke I admit but I'm coming in just under £1000.00

Just looked at the pics....it looks like an 02 STi Bug
I paid API an arm and a leg to get a six speed sti gearbox into my 02 WRX (£2.5k)......brembo brakes....class act with proper discs and pads, looks like it has jap smoked HID's...all is not as it seems but for £4995 with a bit of dealer warranty looks good to me for a punt

In all honesty if I was selling a car as a dealer or private and advertised it with a FSSH and the clutch as being done, and a punter then showed me the history wasn't full and I lost the clutch paperwork, I know I'd have to knock money off to sell to them.

When Subaru launched the newage Bugeye STi they got so many things right......rigid bodyshell, unbreakable drivetrain, AVCS, Bremo brakes, an engine that could handle 400 BHP, a better interior, a proper intercooler, Fuel pressure regulator, real injectors......and the rest
But they dressed it in a pretty ugly bodyshell, and they dropped out of rallying
£4995 is a reasonable price IMHO
