Default 03 JDM sti "GDB" LSD/oil question

Hi Guys,

I've searched an searched, but have become more an more confused on this.

As the tittle says, i've a 03 JDM sti with DCCD.
Diff has started clunking, even when fully open on tight turns.
I know some say there's did this from new, but mine didnt when i got it.

I want to change the box and rear diff oils.
I dont know what type of diff is in mine, ie plated, viscous coupling etc etc, i dont know a huge amount about LSD's bar their function.

So what oil should i be getting for the box, and diff, and how much??

Thanks!

If you have DCCD means you should be running a 'mechanical' clutch rear lsd. You'll need a oil with LSD properties. Motul, Sikolene, Castrol are all quality brands.

And for the box itself?
Is it the same oil?

Finally, how much does the diff take?
Box is about 5L isnt it?

They are abit different. I believe an LSD oil is too slippery for the synchros to catch in the gearbox. PM Oilman, he should be able to give you a good recommendation.

A workshop put in LSD gearbox oil into my bugeye 5 speed gearbox, and within 3 miles, the gearbox started crunching going into 1st. Got that drained out, and put in some fresh Motul gear 300. Fixed the problem. I believe the same applies to the 6 speed box.

The gearbox takes about 4L and the diff about 1L.
