Default UK Turbo 2000 VS UK "blobeye" WRX

Ok just a quick one guys, im tossing up between these two.

What would be faster 0-60, 0-100. Ive always loved the classic for me its the "real" scooby but also like the idea of a newer car. But I just want to know this time what is faster. Obv the classic is lighter but is the WRX not more powerful???

Not interested in running costs, insurance, age or what you would prefer. Just a straight question about what is faster??

Cheers

Not much in it to be honest, but the classic will be quicker if both cars in standard trim as the bob eye was quite a bit heavier with not a lot of extra power.

Late classic 99/00 impreza turbo : 215 bhp , weight 1235 kg = 174 bhp per tonne.

Blobeye wrx 225 bhp , weight 1385 kg = 159 bhp per tonne

150 kgs more weight in the blob for a car with 10 bhp more than the classic, both producing peak power at 5600 rpm, so the classic with a half decent exhaust and a decent panel filter will be the quicker car of the 2 and the better buy imho. A lad on here has a low mileage classic with tastefull mods, fsh, etc , selling for about the same price as a bug/blob wrx. His username is chtcpo might be worth having a look.

My previous car was a 1996 turbo 2000. I have just replaced it with a 2001 "blobeye" wrx as I wanted something a bit newer plus I got it for a bargain price.

In terms of performance I can honestly say that I am dissapointed with my new car. It feels alot slower off the mark.

Its alot nicer to drive tho. Everythingn else just feels a little bit better. Brakes feel better, handling feels a bit tighter, nicer interior.

If you've got the money I would still recommend the new one but I think a new exhaust system and remap is a must. I hope to have these done over the next couple of months.

Also, someone may correct me if I'm wrong but, I believe the classic had a gearbox with tighter ratios. I'm sure I read somewhere that the hawkeye models were fitted with a gearbox that had tighter ratios aswell to try and combat the poor accelleration the blobeye had compared to its predecessors.

blobeyes are very very ugly cars imho, classic looks so much nicer, the only blob i would consider would be a sti jap import or uk sti with ppp, but id much rather have a classic type r or ra for the money. few really nice low mileage classics up for sale just now on pistonheads, including mine, which with 300bhp would leave a blob wrx for dead. i was looking at a friends silver wrx blob yesterday which was in his garage as i got my new backbox fitted and i did like the look of the interior, seats look much nicer than the classics, and they look ok from the rear, just dont like that front at all.

Don't get me wrong. I Much preffer the look of the classics.

When I got my blobeye I wasnt looking for a new car but the blobeye came along at a really good price with 60'000 miles on it. My turbo 2000 had 100'000 miles on it and had seen better days so I just took the opportunity while it was there.

I didn't used to like the blobeye but it has grown on me.

Funny thing is though that with the exception of the STI7 seats the best seats Subaru supply are those fitted to the late model classics.

Yeh its funny how peoples opinions can differ. I'm no expert. Just giving my opinion.

Granted the seats in the classic do look better but I feel the blobeye seats are comfier and the interior in general just has a better look and feel to it.

I'd just like to add that it is getting harder and harder to find classics in a good condition that havn't been thrashed. As far as I can see the blobeyes are going quite cheap bacause alot of people dont want them. Some good bargains to be had.

yes i agree nice classics are hard to find, but they are out there, i looked for over 6 months to get what i wanted, ie standard, low miles, detailed service history and immaculate, which is why im suprised i havent sold it yet. if it doesnt go soon im keeping it.

Same here mate I looked for ages to find mine and after nearly 3.5 years have put it up for sale but the longer it's on the drive I'm seriously thinking of keeping it.

I much prefer the look of the classics. Watching the rally growing up is why i fell in love with scoobys in the first place and getting a classic was always my dream. So finding a good classic was key for me and it reminds me everytime when I look at it of growing up watching the rally.

Granted on the interior but the late classic seats offer more support than even the later blobeye STI seats.

I agree. Have blob sti seats in my classic. They look much nicer but the original classic seats were far more comfy. On a long drive the blob seats tend to give me backache. You sit on top of them rather than in them on the classic.

Yeah that is what I mean. The later seast look better in some guises, but they really aren't as good.

I went through the same dilemma as I saw blobeyes for same price as a good classic. But the classic won on looks, mileage and FSSH. Plus with some nice mods it's running 250hp - more than I would have got from blob wrx. Hope you make the right choice mate

The blobeye would easily make 250bhp with a few simply modz as well, plus the engine could be in better condition 2 last longer with 250+bhp..but the classics are alot lighter as mentioned

I currently own a MY99 classic and love it..
I prefer the Blobeye looks compared to the Bugeye on the other hand my brother prefers the Bugeye.
Buy whichever version you prefer there all good.......

Whichever you buy, you will likely modify and so initial performance comparisons will be meaningless.

I have a Blobeye and a Classic. The Classic is heavily modified while the Blobeye is not. I like the Classic as it is more raw and I enjoy driving it for that reason as well as the power. If you want more comfort go for the New Age.

Whichever you buy, it will likely not stay unmodified

Sounds like a lot in this thread have confused Blob with Bug. Nontheless, whether it's either, if you can get and STI rather than WRX then the first set of mods are already done for you, by Subaru.

I think the blobeye, bugeye confusion was my fault. Theres no such thing as a 2001 blobeye.

I now know I have a bugeye. These terms were new to me untill I actually bought one and came onto these forums to seek some advice.

I had a UK Turbo 2000 Classic, I sold it cos it was getting a bit ratty, and bought a low miles FSH 2001 WRX bugeye. I liked the rawness of the classic, I am a little disappointed with the bugeye - it's nicer on the inside but it's a bit ugly - (I need some Morette headlights), and it doesn't handle or brake as well as the classic.
It is a bit more comfy I suppose. I'm gonna keep it for a bit while I save some pennies then I'm thinking Hawkeye, or perhaps another classic.

You still havent managaed to sell it yet? Its not the ideal time to be selling SIs at the moment.

Have you taken into account the search criteria on sites like Autotrader?

Got my one couple of weeks ago £3750 - not mint (but as close as your going to get for that money) and higher miles, nothing major though (64k).
