In-car fire extinguishers
#2
I have a Lifeline Zero 2000 system, although it was in the car when I bought it.
It's not been correctly installed, so am in the process of ripping it out and starting again.
For on the road use though, I may disconnect the external handle (when it's installed) for obvious reasons...

He had a red classic I think?

All a fire extinguisher will do is give you a little more time, 99% of the time the fire will be too intense for you to fight, ever see how much foam a fire engine uses on a small car fire? you would need more than a couple of 2kg extinguishers to put one out

mine went up on thursday night , power steering fluid leaked out and onto the headers , luckily pulled over at petrol station , popped bonnet and put it out. i used about 4 seconds worth of a 5kg co2 . its all done now thanks to mattybr5 for the parts , but i aint using it until headers wrapped again in thermotec and sealed with the special spray . and i have 2 x 2kg co2 one in the car one in the boot

I had a a few fires on mine now and on the 1st one when I opened the bonnet the flames were about 3ft tall and I got such a shock and dropped the bonnet. I emptied a full 10kg fire extinguisher thru the intercooler and it put it all out. The 2kg ones are pretty good and as long as you catch it within a minute they would put it out
I now have this sticker on my bonnet as a joke and |I have another on the boot
My 1st incident If it wasn't for that fire extinguisher the car would of just went up and there would of been no stopping it unless you had a firetruck handy

it was only smoking when i stopped in the cxar park part not next to the pumps . i pulled in to get smokes . i aint that daft lol , i popped bonnet after grabbing the extinguisher and was prepared for the worst , however thank **** it was only just alight just below the uppipe joint , it just melted the cam cover and a couple of pipes thats all , i was just saying how much co2 it took to put it out , about 4 seconds worth . makes hell of a mess though bloody stuff gets every where

3 litre foam, 4kg powder. Not light, but if you need one, I hope not to run out, as I had a small "car" powder one 30 yrs ago and it lasted a few seconds and had no effect
Kept in a plastic tray in boot along with 4litres oil, tool kit etc !!

i had a very lucky escape a while back,as it happens i had just walked out of halfords with a 2kg fire extinguisher as i was going drag racing the next day and thought it would be good to have one.only 5 mins later i was on the outside lane of the motorway when i saw smoke in my rear view mirror.i told our lass to get her harnesses off straight away and pulled onto the hard shoulder.i got out and popped the bonnet to be knocked back with flames,in a panic i got the extinguisher i had just bought and even though it was a 2kg one it seemed to last seconds.anyway to cut a long story short i managed to get the fire out which i later found it was a result of the oil cooler pipe bursting and pouring oil all over the red hot headers.i always carry a 2 kg one in the car with me now and tbh i dont think any smaller one would be up to the job of putting a fire out.i have fastened mine infront of the passenger seat for easy access.

I carry a 2kg powder under passenger seat, just as as get me out'a here item, I've watched a car go from smoking to smoking shell in a couple of minutes. Scared me I can tell you...

Al fire extinguishers come with a bracket! Cable tie that bracket to your seat then add the fire extinguisher

didnt know cable ties have a 2 tonne breaking strain , at 30 mph impact a baby has the weight mass of 2 tonnes . a book on parcel shelf will behead driver or passenger at 30 mph impact , and a 14kg tool box in boot will rip open the back seats like a newspaper along with the seats occupants then take out driver and passenger before going throughthe windscreen
