how many cats on the exhaust does a w reg impreza have.
havent got the car yet waiting to see how much x mas bonus we get ,
last year was £550 which means will have 3k to get a v or w plate .
gonna get a standard one and do the mods my self.
don,t want to do a lot just a cobra exhaust may be a filter and remap.
but from what i can make out the early modals have 2 cats .
1 on down pipe then another just past it ,then a resinator box then silencer
am i right in thinging this.
and will a later sti intercooler fit as they look slightly bigger than the one fitted

If it's a UK spec car you're talking about, classics have two catalysts, one in the downpipe and one in the centre section. There's no resonator in the exhaust on these.
You can fit an intercooler from a newage car to a late classic, both the WRX and STi ones can made to fit, yes, although you will need to do a bit of work to get the bracket and dumpvalve fitting properly. TBH though it's a mod that isn't hugely useful without getting the car checked over (or ideally remapped). The standard intercooler is more than capable of dealing with the output of the turbo, at standard-ish output at least.
