#1
Im off to North Wealde air strip on the 22nd of april to have a go at my first 1/4 mile runs.I have a 96 STi,full SS system,Blitz induction(soon) and am hoping for around 13.8 seconds, does this seem acheivable....
I read Harj done a 12.7 in his WRX when he had it

Darren be very careful of Airfield Drap Strips! Santa Pod is where most people base official 1/4 mile times at as its a UK Mecca for Drag Racing.
I would not beleive any other 1/4 mile times ie Magazine or any other unless they were conducted somewhere like Santa Pod.
Have some fun when your launching and remember DON'T Side Step the clutch or its bye bye

Not sure how the Scooby transmission will cope with side-stepping.....but it's defo the best way (performance wise) on a 4x4. The trouble with a 4x4 is that they get bogged down, to overcome that you have to give it death to get THE best times!!!
I managed a 13.5 at Santa Pod running an Escort Cossie which was giving out 280bhp at the time. When I has the engine rebuilt, the clutch was burnt to buggery, but the rest of the tranny was fine.....that was with approx 50 drag runs.
When I bought my Scooby I never went down after I had had a new clutch fitted because of the possible damage!!!!!
Now with my Cossie back again......i'm never going back down!!!!! But it would be interesting to see what it would go like now with a proper 350bhp conversion!!!!
Perhaps......one day

If anybody is thinking of putting a PADDLE CLUTCH in for drag running on a scooby road car.......DON'T!!!!!!!
As I have explained on previous threads, this will only OVER stress other parts of the tranny (gearbox, diffs etc). It is a well known fact that these are not particulary well built on a Scooby anyhow.
Stick to your uprated organic's etc, at least then the clutch will slip when it needs to and not bust your g/box or diffs instead!!!

Don't believe what Harj says.
If decent timing gear is used the times will be accurate. Think you may even find that at Santa Pod the times are better than an airfield.
Remember Performance Car tested a UK turbo down the strip and got it to 60 in 5 secs dead.........Never that fast anywhere else....
At the Revs day, Stef did the 1/4 in 13.2. Same as his SPOD times.

imagine sitting at the lights, revs to say 6000,
in first gear, the clutch is down, u want a fast start so instead of moving your foot progressibly up on the clutch pedal as to "feed" the clutch in. You move youir foot LEFT... not UP but left... PING the clutch comes flying out as fast as the springing will take it..
quite a harsh shock to the whole car in general!

even with a competition clutch its a very very harsh manouver to put the car thru, what do u think the gearbox thinks when someone does that? the drive shafts the crank the lot!! very very harsh... especially with grip and a dry day!
a paddle clutch is a good idea for a subaru id bet, esp if u are upping power and planning some serious starts, but it wont make it "ok" to do the sidestep!

Denz,
If you compare the size of a Cossie diff compared to a Scooby one, you will realise what I am saying .
A Cossie box and diffs will take approximatley 370bhp a standard clutch will take about 320-340bhp!!!!
I'm not saying a Scooby Tranny is crap, but when you start looking at proper 300bhp+ power, you'll be pushing it!!!!
