I keep reading on T'internet about bottom end failures, knocking engines etc...
Only bought my scooby yesterday and im starting to crud my pants that something will go wrong! Its fine, FSH looked after etc... but you never know. What does the knocking sound like, I mean i know its a "knock" but is it loud, would i know if it was happening to the untrained eye.. or ear?
I look after my scoob cause im lucky to have one, always warmed up/cooled down, but so was my mates and his engine just blew today doing 40mph in 2nd. Thats hardly thrashing it and it went.
Anyway its 2am..............:slee p:

I can relate to what you're saying. I'm paranoid about the oil, knocking, people smashing into it, the whole nine yards.......
I guess it's only natural to be protective over possessions you love, and as for knocking etc I'm going to look at the actual statistics if I can find something concrete, after all that's what the government use so they must be useful, right?

Check the oil before every drive.
Put good oil in.
Get a GOOD specialist to do the oil change PROPERLY.
On start up let it idle for 30 secs to get oil pressure.
Drive like a vicar until you get full oil temp.
Then give it death
If you have modifications is there a new engine map to take them into account? If not get one NOW.
If your car has a MAF - stick to a panel filter not an induction kit.
Do that lot and you will probably be OK with it all
Steve
Knock detection, Oil presure and oil temp guages - are very nice to have because then you know actualy what your engine is doing.

I think a healthy dose of paranioa comes free with the car.
I know I get paranoid but I just try to enjoy the car and put my worrys aside.
Most of what we worry about never happens anyway.
You'll always hear of engine failures though but I am of the opinion that the majority of Imprezas are in safe hands and well looked after, especially compared to the average car on our roads these days.
I am sure we have all seen the way people treat their cars, even new ones.
One can only imagine how infrequently such cars see a service engineer, or recieve an oil check, change etc.
I ALWAYS kid glove my car though. Warm her up cool her down etc etc etc....
Part of the fun
