Jdm spec?

Jdm spec?
I know what the differences are on the Jdm Sti, my question is why do Subaru make different cars for the other markets and the Jap market?
Surely it must be more cost efficient to make the same car for all markets?
And if the twin scroll 2 ltd engine is so much better why not use it in the uk?

The thing that I do not understand is that there is a massive market out there for those of us who want the JDM's, if Subaru UK supplied all models they would capture the whole market and get all of our £££?
It would appear that most peeps with Scoobs like the higher spec models so why do Subaru UK insist in bringing in a "lesser" spec car and then try badging it as a "Type UK" seems crazy

Another interesting point is Horoshi Mori (Project General Manager of the Impreza) has said in an article that people in Europe favours low end torque engines to high reving engines.
Well, that may be true to some extend, but IMHO, i think that more than half of the STI owners would much prefer a stronger highly tuned high reving 2.0L engine than a 2.5L that produces better low end resonse but is inferior in all other areas.
I find it hard to believe that Subaru doesn't know this fact, so i think cost is definitely a reason.

Subaru must know this but choose to ignore the obvious facts that they would benefit if UK cars had the same spec, even if they had to raise the price or at least give UK customers the option.

Yet everytime 5th gear / top gear run these tests they ase a UK PPP

I think you've hit the nail on the head > PRICE, what they are obviously unaware of is how much us enthusiasts (idiots ) spend on our cars. Yet Mitsubishi are aware of this and provide all high spec cars to there UK customers, very frustrating wouldnt it be great to see the FQ400MR & the GTR35 up against something like the Spec C R205

But it must cost more to produce different engines for the two models than to make loads of one engine, and yeah why can't we buy a Spec c or RA over here??
It can't be that hard for Subaru UK to bring them over at the same time???

From: 1600cc's of twin scroll fun :)
I have a spec list somewhere, but basically your looking at:-
Twin scroll turbocharged engine with....
Nitrided/cross drilled crank (only on twin scroll STI's)
Folding electric mirrors
quick rack 13:1 steering
Auto/manual IC spray
Differences in gearbox (slightly stronger/robust afaik due to better components to compensate for the higher power output)
Rear wiper on bug/blob/hawk
Reason we dont have the 2ltr twin scroll is emissions, the 2.5 may pump out more cr@p but its bigger so you can get away with it

From: Slowly rebuilding the kit of bits into a car...
1. Subaru UK are a penny-pinching bunch of profit monkeys...
2. Low spec. + high demand = more profit.
3. Making variants on a model is relatively cheap for the manufacturers.
4. S.U.K. fitted air-con in Brum 'cos it was cheaper than adding it on the production line in Japan, thus more profit.
5. E.U. emission laws and mpg averages are our fault, we let them do it to us.
dunx
P.S. A JDM car is only worth a premium if it's staying relatively standard... many don't so it's less important.

I believe the "Type UK" badge is really to differentiate between "official" UK cars, bought from UK dealers, and cheaper but mechanically identical RHD European imports. Essentially it's just a badge that says the rip-off Britain tax has been paid.
