Guys wife bought me a personal number plate for Xmas, Ive just recieved the Pink document, with fees paid.
After further reading i can go to my local DVLA office and take that Pink slip and my green V5 and they do the rest, so some questions.
Do they also give me a new Tax disc then ?
When can i fit the plates After the DVLA trip or before ?
Once ive been to the DVLA how long can i drive with old plates on ?
Do i just keep the old plates and pay the DVLA a holding fee for my 60 plate ?
thanks guys
ooo and anything else i need to take with me to the DVLA, i know illl have to notify Finance company and insurance
ted

Do i just keep the old plates and pay the DVLA a holding fee for my 60 plate ? BIT OF A SCAM AS MY OLD PLATE HAS ALWAYS BEEN AVAILABLE
You'll need proof of insurance & MOT if not a brand new car.

You cannot fit the new plates before the trip as you will need a V948 Authorisation Certificate before you can get them printed.
You do not need to put your original VRM on retention. If you sell your 'personal plate' or transfer it to another vehicle then the ****'s at DVLA will put the original VRM back on your car. It's all in the transfer cost.

Thats incorrect they will issue a new tax disc and retain the old one if it has one they will aslo retaian the v5 and give you an authorisation slip to have new plates made at any good parts shop then you stick them on as soon as poss and tell your insurance company the reg has change. some charge a £25 quid fee for admin> Ive done it loads have 2 personal plates and have had them on many cars. Thats if the plates on retention. if its a car to car swap then its a different thing and cant be done straight away. you have to wait for docs through the post

thanks Guys ive actually just done it.
bacisa were I handed in the Pink slip and V5, they scribbled on my V5 took the pink.
Printed me a new tax disk, but also let me keep my old one, they issued me with the Plates form, and i was told a newv5 would be on-route
Ive spoke to finance and they are sending me out paperwork to change it.
But to be honest whoever you had finance with wants shooting, i agree its there car in money terms but its your car on the document so you do what you want with it, and keep them in the loop.

or got to your local government DVLA office, take all your paper work.. tax disc insurance V5 etc and get it done there. Then you can ask them question as to as and when.
