Hi matey i have fitted silicone hose(not Samco, but SFS)and this upgrade i will recommend, because as you say std, inlet is restrictive.
You can have look for here

or on eBay

Hi matey improvement are, because your old one is restrictive. After fitting our,i notice better sound and better air flow, more BHP around 8-10bhp,due silicone induction hose is smoother and have better flow.
The OEM turbo inlet is very restrictive and causes turbulence all the way along. The silicone version has a wider diameter at it's widest pont and is nice and smooth all the way through. That in itself makes a huge difference just to how much nicer the car drive.
That's my thoughts...Every have different opinions on this.

Changed mine also on my last 2 classics, fitted a samco induction hose as a replacement to the std restrictive unit. Just needed to move the power steering pump a little to the right ,never touched the intercooler, alternator, etc -it took me 15 mins fitted ,it took longer to get the old unit out.

sorry i meant powersteering pump not alternator lol, really... me and my mate struggled like mad, the pipe just wouldnt go through the gap between the inlet, had to change mine cuz the standad one split, so thought i would upgrade.
