Turbo Decision Help
Thought id see what everyone says here first before ordering a new turbo.
Currently in a GB270 Stock, i know the gearboxes will only handle a maximum of around 350, so i need a turbo that will get me up to that mark or fairly close to it. Hoping to Run somewhere near 350bhp and close enough to 400lbft
Supporting mods brought and ready:
NGK Sparks
255 Walbro Pump with Gasket
100 Cell Sports cat down Pipe - H&S
De-Cat Center Pipe - H&S
Prodrive Back Box
Cosworth Panel Filter
Snorkel Delete
Sti Topmount
Full Samco Hoses
What turbo Would People Recommend? I've been looking at VF34's VF43's TD05 - 16G's
Ive seen a lot of previous posts regarding the best turbos for 2.0 blocks however i havent seen one for the 2.5wrx lump.

by snorkel delete, i worded that wrongly.
I have cut the large box off the bottom of the snorkel and ultimately turned it into an elbow, make a slight bit of noise difference, and thats about it..
thanks for the info, i did look at VF48s but they are designed for a lot more power arent they?
I can only go as high as whats safe for the crappy 5 speed box

The VF43/VF48 will comfortably make the figures your looking for, but it's the torque that I would be more concerned about when it comes to safeguarding your gearbox.
If you want to run a turbo which will be towards the top of it's limit then I would plump for the VF34 or the TD05 18G or even a 16G, but I would only source the TD05 variants from a reputable supplier like Harvey.
I would drop him a PM and speak to him about your choices as you will not get anybody more knowledgable or helpful than Harvey, he tells it straight and will not sell you something that you don't need.

Iv'e been pondering a replacement turbo for my 06 2.5 WRX and personally decided to go the Andy Forrest TD04 hybrid route, as that should with supporting mods get the car to a good performance level with enough leeway to not be hard up against what's sensible for the stock engine and gearbox. I guess it depends on your objectives, mine happen to be very good spool characteristics and the maximum torque that's not totally asking for the cogs to strip. I'm quite partial to the occasional 0-60 in as little time as possible, and generally would like the car to be very useful around the twisties. I guess if one wants to cane the motor in straight lines on a regular basis where the speed is less disturbing to one's survival mechanism a bigger turbo would be the way to go. I'm two thirds through modding my car and personally think a well set up 330hp hybrid TD04 car with a capable driver and a few suspension mods is going to be a very difficult image to shake out of a rear view mirror or pass on anything other than straight roads.

Hi all,
Currently have a TD04, Walbro Pump, Samco hose and a Remap and am happy with the way the car pulls, but want a bit more - as always.
I'm also looking to get a VF43 (38k on it) along with a STI TMIC and Undertray and 2nd Decat and then a Re-map on my WRX Hawkeye, but am concerned about the gearbox.
What BHP/Torque should I expect - 310ish bhp? and 350ish Torque?
Will my gearbox be ok with these?
Is spool slower on the VF43 compared with the TD04?
Only looking for around 310-20BHP ish
Thanks all.

Hi matey
VF43 are good for around 330-350bhp,great turbo, spooling like VF35 from some reports, this turbo is mainly used at USDM/AUS...
http://www.rexnet.com.au/forum/index...hi-vf43-specs/
You may also consider 550cc Sti injectors,3-port boost solenoid, becuase your injectors will be maxed at 310-320bhp,but if you are looking just for this power you will be fine with std.injectors.
About the gearbox,i think will hold this power without problem, but someone will confirm for sure(i have 4eat,which semi auto)

Thanks Jura,
So if I have the STI TMIC, VF43, Second De-cat only, and re-map I should be looking at around 310/20 ish?
Safe for the gearbox and Spool up by about 2800 rpm (vs 2500 with the TD04)
Thanks again for all your help Jura, it's much appreciated, as I want a Fast street car with good reliability.
Also Is it just a colour difference or something more on the injectors?
Chris

Probably worth get Sport CAT(Cobra 200cel Sport Cat,Ninja sport cat, these are around for £250),which will pass MOT and will make more power for future.
(if you want later),Steve aka The Gimp running 453bhp with Sport CAT.
This turbo will be great upgrade for you.I think you gearbox will hold 340BHP,some reports/guys making on 5speed hawkeye WRX 400BHP without issue.
And with this setup you will make these BHP 310-320BHP,but you will see.If not you may consider Sport CAT for better flow, because your OEM downpipe is more restrictive like Sport CAT.

Hi Jura,
I have a forester S-turbo with a TD04, Sti Up pipe, Prodrive Sports cat, 2nd decat and H&S Back box + Remap to 1.3 bar (think around 250/60 ish and Quite loud!), but want to keep the Hawkeye discreet and not noisy......so decided for now to leave the Standard Back box and CAT in place - Bit of a sleeper...but want to achieve 310/20 bhp and equivalent Torque, so if you are right, I should be very happy with the VF43.
Thanks again.

Hi All,
Just a quick question, do I need any other hoses for the intercooler other than the STI Y pipe to swap to the STI TMIC?
Also what about a heat shield for the Turbo?
Thanks,
