Hi just after some advice, just got some new front tyres on a classic, the car has some rays 17 inch alloys on it and the previous tyres were 215/45/17 went to the tyre shop and they had non in stock the owner said put some 225/45/17 tyres on they will be ok, is this ok? Are they any benefits or disadvantages to the wider tyres? Thanks

No they will rub on your arches, your tyre spec should be these for 17 inch wheels on a classic.
Recommended (correct) size is 205/45/17, alternative size is 215/40/17.

Benefits: More grip, Looks
Disadvantages: More grip (may have less predictable handling), speedo reads out, More tramlining etc
So i'd say stay 205 or 215 at most.
