Default Panel Filter

I am sure they has been covered several thousands of times. I have searched for it and its thrown alot of different debates up.

Anyway I am looking for a good panel filter as mine is tat.

The car is pretty much standard apart from an exhaust.

So which ones do you rate and were to buy?

Cosworth for me, no oil, excellent filtration and flows 10% more than standard filter

Engine tuner or lateral performance stock them

I was going to ask about Cosworth. I was looking at them. Do you still change them every year or are they re-usable?

I am using a do-luck panel filter here, have not had any problems with it.

There was a review few months back about the best panel filter and do-luck won hands down...

They are not reusable but you can pick them up for £25-£30 and you dont have to worry about over oiling them etc

K&N or Green Filter are mostly used and are re-usable.

As above, it won on bhp gains, no tests where carried out on filtration. You might as well stretch a fishy gusset over the intake.

Another vote for the tried and tested.

If you are not concerned with longevity, then the OE STi panel is as good.

Another +1 for the STI panel filter not the cheapest but definately the best it is a service item though so needs replacing every 20k/2 years but gives the best filtration and ive seen great power gains on a standard (very tight engined, ie 1800 miles) spec c

Just tried that but unfortunately the wife's thongs will barely cover the nuts holding the intake duct, car seemed quite responsive though

I know what you mean Tim, you tend to get a little bit in the middle, and a nut hanging out either side. Neither effective nor aesthetic!

For me, an aftermarket panel filter is an aftermarket panel filter. I cannot see how one can be far superior to another. The differences you feel (if any) when driving a car with an aftermarket filter will certainly be subjective.

I changed the standard panel filter to an aftermarket one on my V6 Ford Cougar years back. It made no difference to sound, performance or economy. What are they supposed to do on Imprezas?

K&N and others are reuseable, meaning that if you change your filter more regularly than the suggested 3 years, or keep the car longer than 3 years , its a cheaper option.
K&N will give slightly more induction roar then the standard filter.
Andy Forrest recommends K&N

i got a green after calling scooby world they said it was 1 of the better ones or k & n but they were £12 more and i was on a budget,

still i did notice it pulls better

only difference i could notice was my OE dump valve was more audible - ive used green and hks without any issues

Will it have a larger effect on turbos? I just havent seen or heard anything that makes me suggest it isnt a placebo. It 'felt' faster, it 'felt' louder etc.

Im pretty sure anything that isn't standard should be declared but I don't imagine it would affect your premium !
