Default New driver's seat for Classic MY00

Hi all,

I was recently quoted £1,100 for a new driver's seat by my local Subaru dealer.

Just wondered if anyone has found a cheaper alternative, such as refurbishing at all? As the car is probably worth £2,500, I'm not paying £1,100 for 1 seat!

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi. £1,100 for a seat !!!!???? Does this price include a 6 months petrol or something ?? :-) OMG !!!
For that price you can easily get a SET of BRAND NEW Sparco's or similar :-)

Try e-bay and breakers, but do remember that even the best classics are now ten years old, so the seats, especially bolsters and the sides of the backs, are looking very tired.

If it were me, I'd either go for a newer interior from either a newer car, or a low mileage import classic, or get the front seats on yours re-upholstered.

Either way you'll have change out of £500 let alone £1100

And yes, Subaru and IM DO take the p*ss on prices for parts.

I know it's a passenger side seat but I sure you could swap the frame over.

Thanks for all the replies, I have agreed a deal on here with someone selling a set of front and rear sti seats and door inserts.

I'm happy with that, but have noticed that the door inserts are a different shape to mine, which is a UK car. This doesn't bother me as my doors will pretty much match the new seats for colour, but can someone confirm that the sti seats will fit in a UK MY00 please?

Cheers,
Paul.

The fronts will no problem, as will the backs. But the rears may not be the 60/40 split seats like your olds ones. They might be one seat panel.

Thanks mate, good info, the split seats are handy, but not essential as I have two kid's seats in there anyway.

I just need to know all the mounting bolts will line up.

If you are getting seats out of an STi classic, then make sure you get both the support bar that goes across the back centre of the rear seat upright part, the bolts that hold it in place and the cover that separates it from the boot area.

The bolt HOLES are on your car.

Make sure the door cards are from a Facelift JDM or UK car. Otherwise the door cards wont fit.

Any pics?

I've tried but they don't swap unfortunately

But a decent upholsterer will be able to swap the cloth & bolsters across ...I paid £120 (passenger seat was £50 & was immaculate!)

Thanks all.

I just wanted to thank Scooby_Tish, for his help with this. He delivered all 4 sti seats and 4 door inserts in excellent condition to me last night, about 10 hours after I started this thread!

£300 was a really good price, and he's a top bloke as well. Definitely worth contacting him if you need any parts as he's stripping his car at the moment.

The door inserts are identical size but have the electric window switches in a different place, so I think with a bit of fiddling with wires they should fit.

Paul.

A quick update on this, all the seats are in, the door inserts didn't quite fit so I'm leaving the old ones in there.

The only problem now is I'm left with the back of the rear seat showing, as it is just foam, as opposed to the carpeted one I took out? Anyone know if you can buy a boot mat that goes right up the back of the seat? Or is there a part just to cover the exposed foam section?

Cheers,
Paul.
