Yep. Mine is the same. Started doing it in the cold weather. Unplugged it under the steering column, sprayed switch cleaner on the contacts and re- plugged - still rubbish! Got to the back of the unit and un-plugged and re-plugged and it was fine - for a couple of weeks!

mine does this also. if it does it, turn iginition off. push & hold top right corner of display screen, turn ignition on again. if it reverts to normal again. then just dismantle the unit and put a bit of padding between LCD display and casing face - i used a lump of rolled of insulation tape. screw it all back together and it should work.
PS if anybody has the later LCD screen type (there is 2 types used in the units) i have a VFD screen which is a direct replacement for it. when you have it apart measure the distance between the pins. mine is the earlier LCD so i cant retro fit the VFD screen

Would have considered that but I have a green connector at the back of the unit IIRC,
although when I got mine, they were offering the VFD as an option.

if they offered you the VFD as an option then maybe it does fit some green plug ones?? measure the distance between the pins, and what is on the datasheet. if it fits it'll work.
it wouldnt work on mine as it wouldnt physically fit
or if you get me the name and product code of your board (its on the PCB itself) ill check it for you

I had similar with mine - found the wiring to be a bit loose on one of the choclate block type connectors where the display plugs into the mount - tightened the grubs crews and all ok...
...until the backlight or supporting circuitry went on my display. Changed my screen, but theres still no backlight so can't see anything. Great piece of kit when it worked, wish they were still supported.
