The offset is how much the wheels stick out. Its the stud pattern you need to make sure is correct 5x114. So an offset of 38 should be ok. The lower the offset the more aggressive the look. Are they not 18" on a hawkeye ?
Please correct me if in am wrong

Hawkeye WRX = 100x5 PCD
Hawkeye STI = 114.3x5 PCD

I have 18's with a 35 offset Speedlines on my hatch and they sit perfect, not sure if 17's and a low offset would look a little strange though.
