Questions regarding my mods to get 400bhp or thereabouts...
Good Evening guys and girls,
I started a thread sometime ago: Here regarding getting to 400bhp... Im now moving slowly (as funds permit) towards this mark, and i have a few questions... J
just as a remider: 2002 STI Type UK, Standard internals.
Thanks,
Rob

- I hear that when your approaching the 400bhp marker, the standard induction needs replacing for a CAI, is this right or can you achieve the required power/torque with the Airbox with a good panel filter?
- The standard headers are capable of 400bhp? and can deliver the goods? Im aware that a good set of Ported headers would be a good idea, but this can be done at a later date right?
- SC46 Turbo will offer what Im after, and what from experience are these Turbo's capable of maxing out at for my future plans
- Standard Pink Injectors will get me somewhere near the 400bhp with a FPR?
Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob,here are mine thoughts, maybe help
1.Standard OE Airbox is good up to 400bhp,depends if you want go FMIC route later or now,i would go with RCM Cone filter(or any big cone filter K&N).I think you will need big MAF tube(76mm or more),because up to 450bhp your MAF tube will be restrictive or you can go via Speed density...
2.Standard headers will be OK for time, but if you want go for more power best bet will be GT Spec headers(these are good and sometimes you can find these for good money)
3.SC46 using Garrett Ball bearing Core, same like using MD321 and is good up to 450bhp....
4.Sti pink injectors will be maxed with FPR at 400-430bhp,but think for piece of mind you can find easily 650cc for £160.

Cheers for the Info Pink Floyd, I'll take a look at his website this morning. Thanks Jura for your input, you kind of confirmed my theory that it would be ok to run somehwere near 400bhp on the OEM airbox, headers and injectors. I doubt this car will see anymore power than 400bhp, well at least for a while anyway Barnshaw I believe that you are somewhere near right with the STI TMIC capabilities, but as it 400ish (not chasing numbers) that im interested in, this is fine for the time being, and just as wrx fifer said.... handling and brakes are in-hand too

My plan as said before is to get as close as I can to 400bhp.... Anything over 380ish and Im happy, anything over 400 and im ecstatic...
There is so much controversy related to what the standard Injectors, headers, and tmic are all capable of making before they suffer efficiencies, failure or even worse cause serious engine damage.
I mean take the VF35 thread regarding the 382bhp (I think it was), you can never be sure what to make of what you read...... If I thought my VF35 could make this kind of power, then I wouldnt even consider the move to SC46 this year!!!

Mine didn't make 400 bhp most do...
MD321H
FPR + std 550's
GT Spec Headers + APS de-cat
HyperflowFMIC + air filter.
But the engine was known to be "off colour" before I did it, so now 2+ years later I'm re-building it with Enginetuner's help
dunx
P.S. Before JGM even got to it the clutch cried enough...
