Whine / Whistle, advice please
Hello,
I have a 2007 WRX, 17,000 miles, not modified. I have owned the car since
1,000 miles. Purchased from a subaru dealer, ex-dem/management vehicle.
About two weeks ago I noticed what I would describe as a soft whistling noise when I change up into 3rd and 4th gear.
It is not loud, just annoying to me, as you accelerate the noise disappears.
I went to local Subaru dealer and mechanic did a road test with me.
First stated it was poss the Turbo, but then said it was a slight whine in the transmission.
I was told that it was that slight that even if they stripped the gearbox they would poss not find the fault.
They also told me that it would prob not get any worse and may have been there since new, although I have not noticed it before.
Can anyone advise me, should I get this sorted now, no-one else can notice the noise but I like to have my cars just right, I dont want to pay to have the gearbox stripped and then told that they cant find the fault.
Also, any idea on cost, they would need to remove/strip the gearbox, poss replace bearing/s, would a new gearbox be more advisable.
Does anyone know/recommend a Subaru specialist in the West Midlands.
Thanks
