Angry Not having a good day...

I just spilled 4.5 L of used engine oil in the back of my wagon.

I could have screamed in rage.

It soaked into the carpet/sound proofing on the floor and pooled in the spare wheel recess, and a bit went around the pillar and no I've idea how to clean that out.

Does anyone know if classic wagons and saloons take the same carpet/flat thingy in the back because I will need a new one.

Not sure on the carpet between the saloon and the wagon, but plenty being broken, both wagons and saloons so you shouldn't have any probs getting a cheap replacement. Try Grade A Subaru, not a million miles from you, they are bound to have some.

Grade A Subaru

When you say round the pillar how do you mean?

now how you feel mate.

i had a macanical oil presure gauge, anyways. i was driving alone, and the gear pedal was a little stiff. i force it down & nipped the mini hose thing, it completly covered me. all i felt was like hot liquid. it completly cover the carpets at the front

i had to get a new carpet, but i used paint finners. smelt but did the job. once all the oil was gone, i then used flash lemony spray to get the excess & smell away.
did it partly, but after a good couple of weeks, and a new carpet. it went

Sorry I meant the strut tower, and more specifically the bloody plastic interior panel thingy which goes around it. I know a bit of oil got under here although the vast majority of it trickled down to the spare wheel well/recess. I guess I need to remove the panel and clean up.

Saloon and wagon panels IIRC are slightly different. In my old UK turbo (saloon) the carpet was manky as hell so I used it to make a stencil on some of that bassbox type carpet. Spray glue onto a thin wood base and cut round with a jigsaw... job done

Yes just remove the panel and clean it up. It comes off easy enough. Not a big job.

A bit of cleaning and a replacement carpet and it will be like it never happened.

Thats actually a very good idea and might actually make a better job than a replacement carpet.

my guess is that he had it in a bowl and going to the tip, raced a saxo/corsa etc around some twistys (and lost) and the said oil then covered the boot etc

Tony, Subaru do a plastic boot liner which has a raised edge (from memory) well worth investing in.

Still, could have been worse, it could have been milk, cost a friend of mine 700.00 to replace the carpets and get the car steam cleaned after he dropped a couple of pints in his wifes brand new car!

Oh how she laughed!

Bad luck (got black Hammerite on the back seat of my very first car, which had cream seats! ).

Look on the bright side, it's better than what you were having to put up with a week or so ago! Glad to hear you made it back safe and sound.

New one.

well, new second hand.

Although you CAN clean oil out of fabric using Wickes Paintbrush CLEANER, the blue stuff, soak it, wash the PBC out with water and detergent, then rinse with hot water, hang on the line to dry.
