Default Seriously sick scooby!

Had to take my 04 bug eye wrx for its mot today, i took it back to the same garage i bought it from as it was free.
But for some reason a bad knocking just started, its around 2k revs and totally stops after 2k, didnt lose any power, smoke or over heat just a bad bad knocking noise!
The car has been well looked after and has fsh and only 45,000 on the clock, Has had the PPP kit fitted from new and only 2 owners.
I finally crept into the norwich dealers after 30 mins of slow driving and got the manager straight out, ive only had the car 4 months and cost me £9k so im really pi$$ed off to say the least.
Im just a bit worried about if the warrenty wont cover the damage, the top mechanic came out and said big ends straight away, i thought it was maybee the bearings on the turbo?
going to be a sleepless night tonight worrying about the car as it was my pride and joy till tonight!!
Any help/advice chaps? allready going to the c.a.b tommorow incase the garage starts getting funny,
Cheers john..

Thanks for the sad news, i think its going to be a hard time getting the garage to sort it out, i think hes going to offer me a deal on a different one, theres a couple of sti's and even a RB320 in there (£14.5K) , but to be honest im a bit worried in case this happens again??? Is this a common problem with scoobys??? cheers for your help

If it were the big ends then I would expect to hear it all the way through the rev range and not just at 2k then disappear, you should also hear it at idle, do a search on you tube for Subaru bearing fail or big end/ knocking engine, it's also hard to diagnose without hearing it too.

An RB320 for 14.5K???? Snap his hand off if its clean!!!!! that seems too cheap to be honest, buyer beware...where is this garage, I want to go and have a look at it!

It is a common fault with the boxer engine...there are some that can go on forever, but generally a lot need a rebuild around 70k, as low as 50k in some cases..although its the jap imports that suffer the most due to not being remapped to accept crappy UK feul..its not so much a problem, more to remember your driving a performance car, and most have been 'ragged' in their lives by uncaring owners and all engines strung out will need rebuilding after time.

Theres only 1 subaru dealers around my area and thats 45 miles away and to be honest there a bunch of useless to**ers, but i bought the car there 4 months ago and have a 12 month warrenty so have to keep it there and see what they say, i expect they want me to pay for the repairs, but they did give me a brand new loan car which really shocked me so i think they know theres something really gone wrong! i dont want to chop it in as even though its a wrx it has all the sti extras gold wheels big boot spoiler on ect and ppp kit on, will just have to wait for the phone call i suppose? cheers for the help chaps!

If you have a 1 year warrenty I wouldn't worry about it. Down to them anyway.

Foook!
You would expect to pay a premium for the PPP and buying from a Subaru dealers but 3+K sounds somewhat steep.

Even the one I posted seems a bit over-priced.
I reckon a decent example of an 04 WRX would be around £5k these days.
£9k seems like an absolute rip off!

I got £5.5k part ex for my 04 WRX in October from a dealership, they sold it on in a matter of weeks for £8k. £9k does seem a lot!

Why people ever trade cars in with dealerships amazes me.
It's almost as if you really do want to get raped!

04 bug eye ? Do you mean blob eye ?
£9k !! way over priced !!
12 months warrany - no problem then, one advantage for paying the sum you paid.

And I wouldn't go to the CAB office until you give the garage a chance to fix it.
I just hope you haven't modified the car at all, as this will be a blessing for the garage.

I'm assuming that 'raped' comment was amed at me Chris? If it was then i'm amazed at your logic.

You value my old car at £5k

And then question why I chose to part exchange it when I was offered £500 more

You also then go on to appreciate the value of a dealership warrenty that a part exchange gives you!

Add to that the fact that the car I bought was little over the private sale value to begin with and low mileage for its age, plus I didn't have to wait months for someone to buy mine or have the possiblitiy of come back if something went wrong and maybe, just maybe you can understand why some of us choose to part ex at a main dealer

Yep but has had 1 owner from new and full service history and also a private plate worth a few grand, ppp pack, and a lot a lot sti extras, plus that all important 12 month warrenty, if i had have bought say a £5k-£6k wrx from the side of the road and this had happened i would have been totally f**ked now so in a way im glad it came from a main dealer....
Ask me in a week or so till i hear back from them then it may be a different matter

Yeah sorry it was a blob eye not a bug eye jmckella and after what happened im glad i paid over the top!

And chris i havnt done anything at all to it in the 4 months ive owned it, its plenty quick enough with the ppp kit on. so im pretty sure the garage will have to sort it out.

They have said if its not economic to repair they will do a deal for another one, but not sure if i dare have another one???

could just be the crank pulley bolt has come loose.Mine did and made a knocking not unlike big end failure and fortunately i caught it before it caused any damage.I have also read that the timeing belt tensioner can start to fail and cause a clacking/knocking sound but ive not experienced this myself.

An 04 WRX for £9,000 and a RB320 for £14,500 from the same garage? Sounds a bit odd.

These Imprezas just seem to knock, front end, rear, shocks, diff support bushes, HID self leveller arm, dry oil filter fitting after service, arb links, rear seatbelt holder, I thought that these were supposed to be well screwed together cars.
