Default The "black" subaru oil filter

Did my oil change today, I had a black filter on and thought I would take it to bits to see what the difference was to the blue one and was quite suprised, I think this will fuel the debate more

I replaced it with the HKS one

here's the link about the blue one

Cool

hey Guys this is gonna run and run aint it! here is my two Penny's worth!!. we have maintained a 08 STI type UK from new it has now done 90,000!! we have always had Genuine parts and the doomed blue filter! it has had 5/30 fully syn oil in it and the guy has never had a problem with it, being an independent garage we also use factor parts and those parts include Fram filters which make the "blue filter of doom" we have never had an issue with their oil filters and we do use a lot of them!!, as it has been stated many manufactures use paper capped filters with no problem, i think this has been started by a Mad Yank with little knowledge of what he is talking about and scares everybody into thinking their engines will self destruct with this filter on, i think that the STI we do is testament to fact that with is nothing wrong with the filter at all, i have one on mine and i wont be rushing out and changing it !!

i dont think people are saying that a engine will just blow up if you use one of the new subaru oil filters,i think the problem is of the build quality or lack of being peoples concern and thats the rub!!!

how they can go from metal end caps to card board tops, has me baffled, and can only be a money saving exersize, and not for a better built product or better filtration.

Its the fact your still paying subaru high money for less quality part, yeh it probably does the job ok, but just seems like a cost cutting cheap filter, they take a lifetime to pre-fill thats the reason i wont be using one i'll be using something else next oil change.
I put the best oil in so want the best filter on there 2.

Im Buggered,my oil filter has been relocated to behind my drivers side headlight,it now sits upside down compared to where it should fit near the headers,so i cant pre-fill my filter, not had any issues over the last 5 yrs with the oil filters ive been using, genuine and aftermarket, but now, with this genuine one, maybe i will have to remove the crank sensor for longer to prime this little begger !!!

Spot on its about money, the blue ones no doubt work ok but why are they charging top wack for a cheaper product, its a cheap shot at subaru owners who expect quality and its not a very good advert.

The diesels now have inverted filters as standard. Oil changes are now a messy business!
