was driving the impreza last night gave it a little bit of boostingss and came back onto the normal road slowed down to cool it down and thier is a distinctive knock in the engine appears at about 2.5-4.5k revs, when i lift off the throttle thier is a fast knock as the engine is on the down rev, i know its hard for anyone to put thier fingure on it but im thinking the worst with an engine rebuild.
i just recieved my gems ecu yesterday ready for fitment aswell absolutly gutted
its a W reg 2000 model v5/6 running 312bhp
also i might add the oil light started flickering on as i brake slowing low oil would this make a differnce, obviously didnt drive it long at all with oil light on.
any help would be much appricated
thanks
alex

Sounds like the bottom end...If you are still ragging it around then you might want to look at a complete engine and turbo!

ill get it looked at the oil light only comes on not very often

if the oil light is on or has come on under braking then your your engine has had it, your best bet would be to speak to API as i believe they do a fixed price fix for bottom end failure.

yeh oil light comes on when braking thats exactly it, okay ill speak to api
thanks

Dude, it doesn't sound good. 300 odd bhp on a UK engine is close to the comfortable limit. I'd take it to a good garage if not a specialists. It does sound like a bottom end rebuild but obviously nobody knows until it's looked at.
Cira £2k plus for a standard rebuild and losts more if added goodies are included...

what if i bought that and put my perforamnce bits onto it then put the gems in and got it mapped would this not work and be a lot cheaper option ?

Alex - assuming it is the bottom end - if your driving/running the car on or off boost you'll do a lot more damage and need more work, as i said possibly a complete new engine and turbo. The bearing shells may well break up and trvel round the engine in the oil f*cking everything they touch! or you could put a rod through the side of the engine then it is game over for the engine.

Personally, i am not a fan of rebuilt engines,if my engine goes bang ,then i dont see the point in spending 3k to have it rebuilt when i could go and buy an complete car(sti) for 2 -3k more ,but that is just my opinion

IF i bought the same engine as what ive got aat the moment or even an STI engine the same model year will it go straight in with my modified bits litterally bolt in bolt out?

If you bought another uk engine(99/00), then yes it would literally just bolt in and you could take your modded parts off and add to your new engine.(which is what i did off my 99uk to 2000 uk).If going for a sti engine you might well need the wiring loom as well as the ecu,as well as the gearbox to get the best out ofthe engine as it has the ability to rev higher ,is stronger & the gearbox has shorter ratios.
