Just after some opinions really on what people would buy for 5k I was thinking Type R

Classic STI, 3/4. Type R if you can find a good one within your budget.

I personnaly would buy the newest and lowest milage example wrx/sti i could find, simply because it should have the least wear and tear, damage, corrosion and will be a more refined and nicer drive than an older model. So something like a late blob i would think.

wouldnt get a blob sti for that, a bug sti on the other hand yes but that depends on if you like the look or not, you should be able to pick up a tidy jdm sti for that money, much better spec then the uk car, if you had to go uk i would look out for a prodrive styled bug much better looking.

if you dont like the bugeye then as said my money would go on the best cleanest v3/4 type r or you can get a v5/6 sti for that money, most will have the normal exhaust, filter, fuel pump and remap if it doesnt i would hold out for one that does, saves a bit of cash at a later date as you will end up paying to get it done

If it was a classic - STI V5/6 or MY00 Type RA. Type Rs are nice but the 2 door tax IMO isn't worth it.

I also found the gearing on the RA (and I think would be the same for Type R) too low. It was a PITA driving anything other than short journies.

MY00 UK car for £2K + £3K for mods? Really only if you have no intention of selling in the future because you'll lose more money than usual on these things.

Bug Vs Blob - I really like the Prodrive Bugs - more so than any of the blobs (only blob I'd have would have to have the wider rear track and DCCD but then its about £8K starting price - if you have the 5K in cash I'd probably go for a cheeky £3K loan and get the later blob)

Prodrive STI Bug with semi high miles will be in the £5K bracket.

Bug Prodrive STI

There was a black one on PH with a Simtec that might have been had for 6. Personally that would save me £1K as a simtec would be on my shopping list

Unless its got DCCD, I don't see the point of buying a blob over a bug - unless you really can't cope with its looks.

Low, big offset alloys and a nice FMIC grinning at you and the Bug Prodrive looks pretty sweet.

If your planning on keeping it and modding the only new age to go for is jdm sti which i think is out of your budget, otherwise it has to be the type r as anything else is going to loose money hand over fist in the next few years.
