Bearing in mind i've never done a track day, what other costs are normally involved? (What is the 'true cost' of the day?)
How much does it cost for a days insurance?
Helmet?
How much fuel do you normally get through?
How much wear does it have on the tyres?

It can be as cheap or as expensive as you want to make it,
I've no idea on the insurance side of things, never used it.
You will need a helmet, beg, steal or borrow or you could buy a cheap one for 50-60 quid.
Fuel is an unknown, depends on bhp and how hard you drive and how long you stay out, mine is 550 and on a good day can use 120-140 quid in juice.
Again, tyres are down to how you drive, if its your first one you will probably be a little more sympathetic on car and yourself.
Sorry I can't be more precise but there are so many variables.
One thing is for sure, when you've done one, you'll want more!

as already mentioned, depends how you treat the car.

just insure you have decent tread on your tyres, and plenty of fuel, budget for at least 2 full tanks, and dont run the car on less than 1/4 tank.

the main wear on the car is brakes and tyres, and maybe an oil change, but its well worth it. done 5 in the last 6 months in my scooby, only reason i still won the bloody thing.

Not really an ideal first trackday track IMO

I did my first track day today and was really enjoying it until near the end I spun hit the tyres and took the side out of the car so its been a dear day. But it wont put me off and thankfully it was my Mx5 not my Subaru. By the way what a fantastic wee car the 1.8 mk1 is. It went round the corners quicker than any of the westfields, lotus's etc

You can bump your car on any trackday. When I have done them before, before I get giddy and try to go too fast, usually late afternoon I think to myself enough is enough and i want my car in one piece.

As far as insurance is concerned, it can be arranged through my website through competition car insurance or direct and generally costs around 1% of the value of the car.

Got helmets to hire if needed.

Should be a good day as it wont be too busy and at £95 you dont need to rag your cars for hours on end to get your moneys worth.

Hmm, so:
Day costs = £95
Petrol = £130
Insurance = £130
Helmet = £60
Plus then additional service etc...
So basically £415+ then!

Trackdays are not a cheap hobby.
Neither is running an interesting car like a Subaru.
You do it because you want to. Simple

It is a quick circuit and does have a tricky corner, Quarry. However, you could crash on any circuit and to know about the tricky corners beforehand is useful. It has a crest before the turn in point. Good link here http://www.evo.co.uk/trackdays/circu...in_detail.html

I did a sprint with MLR and probs used about £50 in fuel for 16 miles, about 1/4 wear on my r888's and it cost another £60 for trackday cover

i did my 1st track session on Saturday at the Action Day at Castle Coombe. I must admit i was bricking it when i was sat in the pit lane waiting to go out, as someone had binned their car into the barriers in the session before us so we got held up.

i took my time for the first couple of laps and built my speed up over the next 3 or 4. It was great fun and cant wait to go back and do it again!

In the drivers briefing they specifically mentioned Quarry corner but i didnt take any liberties and got around it fine. You can get upto silly speeds in the long straight before it.

It cost me:

Oil change £75
Tank of fuel £70 (including getting there and back)

Plus wear and tear on brakes and tires etc

I managed to borrow a helmet and didnt get track insurance.

I was only on for 15mins though so will definately be going on for longer next time

Its not the widest of circuits IMO & not too many run off areas such as e.g. Silverstone, Bedford, most of Donnington.

Too short notice for me

Shame, because castle combe is still on my "todo" list. I've only done about 10 minutes on there, but from whati remember it's an awesome track
