There's a chap just had one mapped by FB Tuning and Rich reckons around 330-340 out of that one with quite a good spec on it as well so i'd say 350 would be the top mark that could be achieved by a 48.

Fitted mine last week & was surprised at the amount of play from a "new 20 mile only" turbo.
Also put on some tubular headers & one of Harveys 2 bolt up-pipes, sonically cleaned the injectors & had it mapped by Bob Rawle.

just had 1 fitted to mine check my post in this thread, we reacon about 330 odd at 1.3 bar , it produces 1.0 bar at 2800rpm on one of harveys up pipes and pulls hard to the red line, still holding 1.30 at 6600rpm , it has potential for 350/360bhp + running at 1.5 bar, maybe more with bigger injectors and ported headers etc. I will update once i got it on the rollers.

I did have a VF22 fitted which was a little laggy but I also have fmic, fuel reg, parallel lines & a gems ecu I suspect it's around 340hp as the standard injectors are at the end of the duty cycle. A VF48 could really do with 550cc injectors.

I run 1.5 bar & as the previous poster said you find yourself at the limiter very quickly!

agree in the most part with what you have said, but the original injectors are 505 (not 440 this is a miss conseption) and with fpr running 4.5bar of fuel pressure these are equivilant to 550's anyway, so larger still might be needed potentially.
At 1.5 bar i think injectors where at 91% but.. lets get them both on a set of rollers and see, I also agree with what you put in your previous post about the car feeling more "urgent" .

I run a 97 typer when I first got it it was fitted with a vf28, I upgraded this to vf35 about 18 months ago and about 3 months ago got a deal on a vf48 with very low miles which meant when I had sold on my vf35 I actually made money.

Car has a 2.5 bottom end with machined to suit ver3 heads, front mount, standard injectors with fpr, mildly ported headers, custom made induction and headlight intake and simtek ecu with 2 maps lc and al.

Runs ~300bhp and ~340ftlb @ 1.0 bar and just over 350bhp and 390ftlb @ 1.3 bar it makes for an extremely quick point to point car but expect to change gear alot .

Was told by my mapper it could run 1.5 bar and make a little under 370 but the torgue could have serious effects on the poor 5 speed box and clutch plus at those boost levels the turbo suffered from some boost creep and the injectors would need to run nearly 100% so we agreed the 350/390 was a nice safe and fair compromise (for now anyway).

My injectors were flow tested - 2x 456cc & 2x 452cc & fuel pressure set at 3 bar.
How would they be 505's?

Thumbs up

Back to topic - VF48 as fitted to the new hatches will make an honest 370 bhp on a 2.5 with supporting mods.

On a 2 litre obviously expect less

They are sleeve bearing turbos which spool at 3k on a 2.5 with avcs making max boost at 3.7k.

Would think you'd pick up a second hand one for £300-400 ?

A

PS Mine will be for sale later in the year as I upgrade.

The VF48 is a clear step up from a VF35 but it is obviously not a 400 bhp turbo. I would say it compares more favourably with a VF34 but more desirable than the VF34 and on a New Age you need pink injectors as a minimum and on a Classic 550cc injectors.
Don't get hung up on whether it is a 350 or 370 bhp turbo. These are only figures. The vaguaries of rolling roads are such that 350 bhp on one can easily be 370 bhp on another

So Harvey are you saying 550cc injectors is a minimum requirement and standered injectors will do mor harm than good ?

With 550's, adjustable FPR, uprated pump and a good set of headers you will see 370-380bhp no problem with one of these (provided your intercooler can support it)

can some one point me in the direction of some 550's adjustable fuel pressure regulator and recommend some headers ?

The VF48 will be supported by a B25C 701 2005 sti short block and simtec ecu ,fmic, atl swirlpot with walbro 255 int pump with bosch 044 ext fuel pump

As you have already quoted what I have said I havn't said anything about :
will do mor harm than good ?
440 injectors without an FPR will run out of puff somewhere between 320 and 340 bhp. (on an efficient setup) The turbo you are proposing to fit has capability beyond that point.
Tell me, are you running an Autobahn or Hybrid?

S10: You do not need an adjustable FPR with 550cc side feed injectors to max out a VF48 so save your money. The figures you quote may be on an optomistic dyno. I would regard the VF48 as very similar to the VF34 which is acknowledged as a 360 bhp turbo but the VF48 may have slightly better spool and is later technology.
