Default Spec C, D or JDM?

I'm looking for a new daily (to replace my much loved classic STi Wagon), and was wondering what the pro's & cons of the three choices are...

I have owned an '04 JDM (370/360) but am not sure how this compares to the D & C.

I feel I am at that stage when the idea of the discrete appeals more than blue & big spoiler, but this isn't set in stone. This replacement has to be at least as quick as the wagon, so I guess somewhere in the 350bhp would be cool

Cheers

How much cash are you planning to spend mate? What year are you thinking of?

You may be looking at getting a Spec D and then fitting a Milltek & remapping (c£1500), based on your requirements.

Spec D is the UK "subtlle" version of the STi with the low level spoiler. JDM has better twin scroll turbo though and is often considered the better car, and would be my choice.

Jdm my05 onwards was my choice for daily driver. Close to spec c mechanically with a few comforts for daily use, exhaust filter and remap to uk fuel will put you in the mid 300's you could always fit a wrx boot if you want subtle

Yes, that's a better idea, just but a JDM and change the spolier!

Hadn't thought of that, lol!

Budget I guess needs to be capped at ~£12K, which would get me into Spec D territory with tuning/mapping etc, or 05 on JDM

Wasn't sure if the Spec D had twin scroll, it's only the JDM that has this then?

Yup.

JDM will pull earlier and longer.

You can get an "A line" JDM, which is a JDM Spec D in effect. Not many have been imported though so they're pretty rare.

You could PM "juggers" (actually Immy) on here. He owns PCM cars in Manchester and will be able to tell you what your options are as far as JDMs are concerned. Has some good stock too!

Spec C's can be discrete, mine even had the small spoiler plus it's an awesome car out of the box!

What would the reasoning be for 05 onwards?

Thanks

05 onwards has the wider track and dccd, although dccd was available from 03 on jdm cars. You certainly wouldnt want a spec d after owning a jdm. You could also research importing yourself from the many Japanese auction sites.

jdm 05 onwards is much closer to spec c than previous jdm's, only difference as far as I am aware is the lack of engine and tranmission coolers no anti surge fuel pump, sleeve bearing turbo and an increase in weight due to extras, about 70kg I think. Maybe other small differences but nothing to really make a lot of difference on the road, as well as increased track better suspension set up and much improved interior.

Spend the money on the wagon newer doesn't equal better or even as good in some cases

My Spec D is pretty awesome but has taken some time, money and thought to make it as good as my STi wagon

Well, I was going to ask sooner or later, have you decided whether to sell or not?

I have someone interested but I am pretty attached tbh Was awesome round Snetterton, one of the best days I have had in a scoob round the 300 circuit It's also quiet enough to do Bedford next month £12k could buy you a six speed, 2.1 conversion, turbo (twin scroll option) and a lot more to end up with an amazing wagon. I am madly saving to do the same to my wagon as I know I won't find a better more organic car to drive, beit like a hooligan or sensibly .......wagon STi's rule !

Depends what you want to use the car for, jdm sti is a great all founder. Spec c is best for the track out of the box but the spec d is a great discreet day to day driver, exhaust and remap and you will have a very nice road car. Need to decide what your main use will be.

I gather its an everyday car with the occasional track day. If so then I would go a 2005 jdm sti. There's a couple on pistonheads at the minute for 8.5k which leaves 3-4k in the bank or to tweak it a little and end up with a better car then the spec d or dare I say then the c .......... Flame suit on

Lol

Must confess, I'm not finding the Type 20 Spec C too difficult to live with!

Sorry tx, but spend 12k on a.decent std spec c or 8k on a jdm and spend
4k molding it and you think the spec c will be better....... Come on. The spec c's oil coolers and 70kg saving won't save it on a track with a jdm with more power, suspension upgrades and a roof flap lol

Spec c's are the nuts out of the box but starting modding and it all goes out the window other then knowing you are driving a spec c.

All imo of course

70kg lighter reinforced cross members. Every person who has come to buy a JDM Sti from me ive given the opportunity to drive a spec c and every one has said they can tell the difference. The spec c feels is much sharper on many ways. Yes you can mod but it doesn't change the fact that an Sti is 70kg heavier which makes a huge difference in cars like these. I notice the difference with a full tank.

Both cars same mods same driver spec c will always b quicker simples
