Advice required: buying car with Private Plate to be taken off
I am about to go ahead and pickup a car on tuesday, the problem is he wanna take off his private plate (as I don't fancy it) on tuesday with the local DVLA office and put his old plate back on for me. I am abit confused with all these process thing.
How long does this process take?
am I still safe to collect the car on tuesday?
He still has the old V5 with the plate about to put on and the New V5 with the private number plate, Which one do I sign?? after the plate changed they will normall issue the new V5 wont they? dont know what I am talking about now, abit lost myself

Don't take my word for it but what happened when i sold my car was that i had to send the v5 off and get the plate taken off first, then when the new v5 came back with the original plate the new owner signed the supplement. For the v5 to come back it can take upto a few weeks. best thing to do is phone DVLA and ask them to make sure.

Yup as above. It takes up to 10 days to get the v5 back after taking the reg off. Id wait till the new v5 gets delivered.
I have no idea why he still has the old V5, the dvla office keep it to send back to Swansea.

You shouldn't buy a car that is in the process of having the reg moved over, it does say that somewhere on the transfer docs. IMHO leave it until the new V5 is issued with the new reg & sign that ... from what you've said above he wants to make the transfer on the day you pick up the car, trouble with that is that the V5 will come back to the old owner ie you'll have signed the old one or indeed won't be able to sign it at all (gets sent away as part of transfer process).
I usually change mine over at a DVLA office as it's quicker like that. TBH the V5 should come back within a few days rather than 10 though. If you don't need the car on Tuesday just put off collection for a few days ie until the V5 is returned?
