fitting a direct cold air feed from front fog cover
hi have been toying with the idea for a while about fitting a cold air feed from one of the drivers side fog cover on a 2002 sti.
whats the benefits of this apart from the temps etc? and what is all required i.e trumpet/ring for fog cover/tubing etc, i would need a map tweak for this also so was thinking of maybe doing this and a couple of other bits soon to get the benefit of a map tweak.
is there any how to's or kits out there or is it just a case of doing it yersel what ever way you want, and what about water and crap entering the system.

morning lol,
so from say the one you have fitted there shaun, you have the port/fog cover then from behind that you have a ducting, and a cold air feed induction kit sat in the wing that right?
can you not say fit the fog cover areaplus duct from rear up to existing airbox? as i feel this would be colder air still than what you get from the under bonnet duct to wing

Morning Is it me or is SN running like treacle this morning ?
I've got an RMCS induction under the bonnet, without a cold air feed all it does is suck hot air from the engine bay which would be hopeless LOL
I'll post a pic later as the boy is on Steam and has crippled my internet (rural broadband is pants)
The OEM newage inlet tract is actually one of the things they actually got right when they launched the bug

running ok here Shaun think must be because you are god knows where lol, so in your opinion, there would be little benefit of me doing it that way other than looks? but how i mentioned is that how some run? with cai in wing and basic hole/track from front directing cold air on to it?
i thought may have been a better air source from front with hold than the existing duct, perhaps not althoug they do look good

i'm just not exact on how that's working i see the induction in engine bay getting warm lol, and the hole in fog cover?, do you have a duct from behind fog cover running through wing up to the engine bay then or?.
nice fmic by the way i want it lol

There's a flexible pipe that runs from the foglight duct up through the wing and into the engine bay I'll have a look for a pic later.
The FMIC is an APS jobby........now has split pipe that needs mending so running off bost and HArvey's are better at dealing with charge temps. not the best £1.2k I could have spent but there was nothing else any good circa 2004 LOL
Eggy790........you mind those puddles

i wouldnt do my style if your on standard ecu, im on syvecs so its ok with the RCM filter down there.. i'll see if i have any other pics tonight on pc, if not i'll take some. what i have done for when it rains is heated the standard sti fog cover and pushed it out against the filter so it nicely clicks into place around the air filter and then i drilled around 10 holes in the fog cover, so the filter never gets completely soaked, has been damp a few times, not had any issues. when i park up on a night i just put a bin bag over filter and then put the cover straight on top so the filter is always 100% dry everytime i take the car out. had it like this for 6 months now, not one issue. and temps are ace

another pic i found
sorry no pics of the pipework but all it is , is the standard hybrid fmic col air kit pipework going straight into the wing. 3" 90 degree elbow added onto the end of it. then an RCM induction kit trumpet chopped proper short on the end of that .. with the filter being stuck on the end of the trumpet. filter sticks out a bit as thats the shortest i could get the pipes. i think it looks good though like this
also note though. the fog area and inner arch was shaved with a grinder and all useless brackets stopping that filter fitting chopped off lol, i was determined to make it fit. so got richard henry motorsport so make sure it did, love it though and its unique. duncan (racedynamix) also loves it o and its defo a tight fit so expect cut knuckles etc. lol

Didn't Frayz run a cold air feed from the right hand fog cover up to his original air box and cut a hole in for more cold air? Sure it's in one of his project threads but they're pages long so might take some finding
I like that idea and most probably will get round to it at some point.

thanks for all the input and time guys i appreciate it, and will double check frayz thread to see what i can see.
standard ecu at the minute mapped os by duncan on standard sort of power 340bhp
just thought it might be a worth while thing to do as opposed to an induction style air feed, as i dont think going for fmic and whole hog on this car just a few changes, turbo and so on.
thought a fog light air feed directed to oe airbox would work better than the bug track from under bonnet may be worth while we will see.
best place to buy a trumpet/ring for fog cove and duct or just fabricate myself?

Ask and you shall receive my dear boys.
Way back on the original thread, page 1
Requires mapping to suit but 100% worth doing.

If I was doing it again I'd buy some brake ducts rather than make them from Revo kit like I did

thanks for sending me the link frayz and yes this is the exact idea i have, and would only consist of a small map tweak for this along.
where did you get the ducting? is it specific to the job or just something i could sorce anywhere
