Default 2011 STI anyone have one??

I've had my Nissan 350Z for 4 years now, but now after something with 4 seats. In the ideal world I would get a E90 M3 saloon but the wife wouldn't have it, and actually personally don't really like the idea of driving a BMW.

Before buying the 350Z i nearly bought a RB5, so went to have a look at the 2011 STI. I know most people think it looks **** but for me its perfect. Its discrete but has a good stance (more importantly the wife doesn't feel too conscious driving it). The quote 27 mpg is better than what i'm use to, and since next gen Impreza is going to have a 1.6L boxer engine I cannot see the STI been replace anytime soon...

However the dealer didn't fill me with confidence, so i wondered if anyone here would be able to answer some of my questions..

1) Is the current STI engine reliable? I know the JDM model is better but really rather stick to official UK models.

2) I noticed Subaura UK are offering a "Special" 320PSI model, is this simply a engine remap that can done any time?

3) What is the Spec-C suspension like to live with? I use to have a Integra Type-R (DC2) but sold it in the end because it was simply too tiresome to drive daily on the motorway

4) Is it possible to mod the engine to 350 BHP without worrying about it blowing up?

5) Why haven't I actually seen any of these on the road?? (i've seen more 370Z around than 2011 STIs)

Thanks in advance

1. Yes and No read these forums and the youll think twice, ring around listen to dealers and youll get the picture, I bought one
2. Yes its 320 and sat nav they also lower the engine, they will do you it on lets say mine who bought it before its about 700 800 and they ship the ecu away but wait for stage 2 that’s coming its will be about 340 350 and involve some parts, but keeps it in warranty
3. Its fine m8 I have 3 kids use it for business don’t really think its any worse that your teg I had a civic type –r and its about same, but comes into its own when cornering its like on rails compared to the older model which wallowed
4. Yes but keep it in warranty as above, wait for mod, when I do mine its going to 450 500 but this will be after warranty
5. Not many of us about due to 33k 6k up on last year, but Myself and Don Clark on here have them, and I have to say out of all the cars ive had, this draws the most comments and attention , I think Don can clarify that also people just like it love the saloon. Feel free to ping me m8

Why go for a uk car if you want a warranty but will void it anyway with mods. Surely it makes sense to go for the JDM 2.0l engine

A few reasons why I didnt go for that

It wasn't out when I got mine
I didn't want the hatch again but the saloon
Iain only does 2 year warranty and for 33k I'd want 3
After reading on here about import issues with repairs and insurance I didn't do it
And the 2.0 jdm would rape me on pence per mile with the tax man

Imget 24p a mile with a 2.5 with a 2 id get 16. The former just cuts it

With a 132 mile trip coming in at 30.36 claim and 29.50 at the pump so I make 86p lol let's not even talk about wear and tear I don't count that lol

Although zoom the jam is a cracking motor if u can warrant the above itnwould be mine if it was my fun car

May I ask why you'd rather stick with a UK car?

I think a good way to look at it regarding Subaru Impreza's specifically is any model that was an 'official UK car' was crap compared to what Japanese people and the rest of the Southern hemisphere countries could buy.

And that, I believe, was ultimately Subaru's downfall in the long run.

(As well as of course introducing a hatch which was totally alien territory to their rally heritage)

Does Iain do a jdm in a saloon ?

I know what your saying about the sti replacement though I'd reakon 2012 2013

I'm unsure though how Subaru work but looking at vauxhall their still isn't a Vxr out on the new shape

Insurance, Import costs, conversion / De-limiting, Re-sale, looked into importing a Integra DC-5 years ago and was put off by all the potential problems....

Had a good look at autotader, seems like all the 2011 STIs for sale at the moment are dealer Demos, at £26-27K I think its actually quite good value...however also realised a lexus IS-F can now be had for £28K..but with unleaded at £1.35/L, a 5.0L V8 dosen't really make sense....decisions decisions
