Angry Never ceases to amaze me!

Sent car in on two occassions to Subaru main dealer to check out the running of the engine due to some intermittent hesitation through the rev range which fortunately has now gone and was put down to some fuel or other anomaly.

Anyway on checking the engine oil last night I thought I would just check what shape the air filter was in. Well it was chocker, just knocking the filter to get the crap out of it produced a dustpan full of forest, then hoovered the thing for about 10mins. It was that bad it was funny!

Friggin unbelievable!

Lesson learnt again!

There's your prompt to find a specialist. Post where abouts you are and someone will be along to advise before too long.

I never touch main dealers for those reasons you mentioned (incompetence). Had the same issue with VW main dealers on my old V6 golf. I had poor running in the golf following a full service at VW and turned out all six spark plugs were not correctly tightened! Independent specialists are the way to go and far better having a full service history by them than by a main dealer - the specialists are far more experienced (often ex-main dealer mechanics who actually take passion in what they do) and a lot lot cheaper.
