I have the same prob. GC8 is all to do with the chassis which is basically the classic surely. I have a facelift classic 96P without the flap on the dash with a double din stereo.
I think I have a version 3?

Lol....

The 'version' number relates to STI models only.
For instance,,

Oct93/sep94 - STI version
Oct94/aug95 - STI type RA version
Aug95/aug96 - STI version 2
Sep96/aug97 - STI version 3
Sep97/aug98 - STI version 4
Etc,etc

Do you guys have Jap cars or English cars ??

Engine is a give away, version 1 & 2 have a top entry turbo, version 3 has a front entry IIRC on the UKs. Dash is also a giveaway.

That's right but when looking for upgrades you can compare yours to a similar version

Then the version 4 had the later dash but early bumper Subaru should have made their bloody minds up!

I agree chap, was a bit of a strange one that by Subaru. You'd have thought by the Version 4 it would of had the complete overhaul and not a half job.
It wasn't until the version 5 they got the complete overhaul, including fancy bumper etc.

Weird wasn't it! They used to mess with the classics quite a lot but they stopped doing it after that. It certainly makes it complicated.

GC8 is a classic saloon - GF8 is a classic wagon.

Versions 2-6 are only for STI variants.

Model Year is the safest bet to use with UK cars.

So to sum up mine is a UK motor on a P reg without the cubby hole in the dash so I should be buying upgrades which are listed for the version 3. The main reason I,m asking is there is a lot more parts listed on the auction sites for sti and wrx and next to nothing for the turbo 2000 which sucks if your new to the scooby world. After reading all your comments and advice I dont feel so stupid for askin this question as it seems I,m not alone.
Thanks for all the help chaps

Version numbers only relate to JDM Cars.

MY (Model Year) relates to the UK Cars.

Don't for get the JDM cars had more goodies and BHP/Torque as standard, so be careful when you buy engine internals.

Have a look at the Scoobypedia on Google.

Hope this helps.

Ah ebay - wealth of parts but zero knowledge.

It really depends on what parts you are after. All brakes/suspension/chassis parts are interchangeable over the entire classic range. It is only interior parts and engine parts you would have to worry about getting the age right.

P reg UK will be facelifted front end with early interior. Would be equilivent to V3 STI. ECU will be later 3 plug (not mappable, not chipable) with a single coil-pack just off centre to the right.

The thing is you always get people saying "you don't get versions in uk cars"

BUT..

I always look at them as versions, uk or jdm. I don't know why some people get so fussed about it, it makes complete sense to me.

If someone says 1996 turbo then it could be either a full early spec car or a car with the early dash still but the updated bonnet and headlights. My point is, saying the year is ambiguous. If you say it's a version 3, straight away I'd picture a car with the early dash and the facelfted bonnet and lights.

The way I look at it, the easy way to look at them is as versions whether jdm or uk.

V1/v2 = early dash, early rounded lights and bonnet, slanty intercooler

V3 = facelifted bonnet and lights, larger straight intercooler, coil back in middle of engine, early dash still.

V4 = as v3 but with facelifted dash

V5/v6 = facelifted to crystal headlights, new front bumper, coil pack to side of engine.

Obviously there are many other differences but these are the obvious ones you can immediately see.

So the way I see it is if you have a 1996 and it has the facelifted front lights and bonnet it's a V3, which it probably is if it's a P reg unless it was registered late.

You need an aftermarket ECU with re-map, de-cat and a td05 turbo (others will do the job easily but be more expensive). You will have a crap top mount intercooler on yours (slightly better than the earlier slanty one, but not much) so a front mounted intercooler will probably be required. If you also change the injectors to 440cc's then with this lot you'll be looking at 330-340bhp.

Give Harvey a shout on here for front mount buddy. Think he does one for under £350 and from what I've heard the quality is very good. He will be able to advise you on fitting etc.
