Default induction kit ????

hi all, to cut long story short , my 2002 wrx will be making between 330-350bhp and i currently have a pipercross panel filter fitted .
but im thinking about getting induction kit ? just had a browse and my 3 choices are

1/ cosworth with heatshield at £300!!
2/k&n typhoon with heatshield £200
3/ roger clark motorsport without heatshield £220

will this help me reach my 350bhp target more easily than panel ??
and although roger clarks kit is floating my boat would it make more sense to go for one with a heat shield to avoid heat soak ? cheers

Green Cotton large air filter. Well under £100.
That's what I use at almost 400 ponies.

Used with cold air feed through fog cover and small carbon air scoop above filter.

Personally if you have TMIC stick with Panel filter, but really depends which TMIC you have if you have WRX TMIC this will be maxed at 320-330bhp,due this i would recommend FMIC or STi TMIC.

Induction kit is recommended if you are going for serious power.

i have a uk300 top mount intercooler and a vf34 turbo " at the moment " so realize it can only make about 350 anyway at best ! but i would like to try and get the most out of it . next year im thinking of bigger turbo , front mount and other mods and go for over 400bhp as a weekend car so havin an induction kit now would save moolah in the future . only thing is ive wasted money on a panel filter and a carbon fibre snorkal for the filter !!

really want the cosworth one but £300 really want roger clark ? but no heat shield might go down local metal works factory and get heatshield made for it . can you buy them seperate ???

Hi

What about the K&N Apollo kit?
Enclosed cone with cold air feed to run down to the front grille/wing so no need for heatshield.
Save yourself a few £££.

Was going to mention an Apollo, but beaten to it!
Had one fitted to my bug.moved the front o/s fog light for the cold air feed, without problems.
I also had a vf 34,pinks,Walbro,fmic etc etc-couldn't get anywhere near to 330-350 though.Maybe it was the ecutek software restricting things-best of luck with your efforts though!

Don't waste money because the 'name' is good. Just because it's got a good name doesn't make it actually work any better.
The money you save could be used on something else for your car chap.

Really RCM kits are proven and are really best for money,if you are using Cone filter create air duct/cold air feed from flexible hose(these are used for Brake cooling).

What's the size of that filter? Do you remember the part no of it as i'm looking into getting a filter when I finish my build.
Cheers

Can't remember off the top of my head. I'll get out and measure it tomorrow chap and post it up for you.
I'm running maffless though so not sure if you would want the same size as mine.

You may end up with a cold air intake that fouls your FMIC pipework, do both together and save yourself a mapping session.

IMHO.

I don't rate the Rcm induction kit . Without a cold air feed they suck in too much hot air and with a cold air feed from the foglight area the maf gets confused and makes the car stall when changing down through the gears or approaching junctions . I will be replacing mine with an Aps kit before my next remap .

The UK300 TMIC core is the same as a WRX Dont be fooled into thinking its any different to a run-of-the-mill WRX TMIC

Also just watch the torques when you go for 350 ish, as they can be a bit of a killer for the ol 5 Speed.

My Spec C Type 20 had a cold air feed when I got it.

It feeds from front bumper (ie foglight hole). I understand why cold air would be better, but how does it provide air which is colder than std box filter? Is it just because it's further away from the engine? And does it bypass the std filter (appears to still be in place)?

You can try create something like this

And create cold air feed at foglight cover.

As well as the cold air feed you need a heat shield to stop the hot engine air from being sucked in

errr , any ideas where i can route the cold air pipe ? fog light is out of question ! and havin a look at it , seems it could be harder than i first anticipated ! this sounds stupid but dont really know how to describe it ? its like a radiator infront of my radiator ??? is that to do with air con ? i could remove that and free up some room

Don't neeed to go as fancy as that, make a cardboard template, cut it out, glue a rubber strip around it and job done

I'll post a couple of pics if I can find them later
