Default Decent remote locking system that does not cost the earth !

On my Impreza Sport, the car came with central locking but only by the key and it does my head in, knowing that I have to lock the car everytime by the blooming key and of course it has no alarm etc.
I asked for a few quotes and the Garmin 7590 was quoted at £250 all in and the Toad 850T at £285
I would like a remote locking system/alarm that does not cost masses of money so does anyone have a good suggestions. I dont need anything overkill
Ideally fitted by a mobile fitter in the London/Bucks area

Cheers

I worked in the industry for twenty odd years, out now.

you want a toad mate, there are cheaper ones that will lock the doors.

Stay away from window closers and other gimmics.

You just want the bog basic locking alarm system.

Local yellow pages with a middle of the road advert is usually a good sign.

With home address and phone number.

Yup what I thought, the prices I have been quoted seem over the top.
I will have a look at yell.com and see what is available

Whats wrong with window closers?

If the lad hates locking the door with a key, then he might find it cheeses him off, that as hes leaving the car he finds he left a window part open, then he has to put keys back in the ignition just to close it

I fitted a Falcon remote locking system to my old Sport back in the day. Literally attached to a motor which lifted the arm up and down which the key normally turns

http://www.in-car-stuff.com/shop/fal...rade-p-32.html - you may need to buy a motor mind.

Every time you lock the doors the alarm energises the windows for about 30+ seconds wether they are open or not. not only does it cause problems for the battery on cars that don't do lots of miles but some makes of electric window motors don't like it either and burn out over time.

Have you had a search on eBay mate? Maybe Stuart the alarm fitter might be able to help. Still busy at work but I'll try and call you late tomorrow if I can, haven't spoken for ages

Not all do, most lifers now are able to sense that the window is up and trip out so only energise the window motor for half a second or so.

Swiss, not sure what year your car is but most classics need a motor fitting in the drivers door as the drivers door only has a switch to operate the motors in the 3 passenger doors

Thought they might, was responding to a specific question as it's the reason i would avoid them but i'm anti gimmics anyway, seen too many problems with them in the early days of alarm systems, burned looms and cars but most were due to poor fitting, although some were down to the unit.

Iv'e been out of the alarm side of things for quite some time, so not really up to speed, but a mate that is still swears by toad, and ive got one thats about 9yrs old and on it's 3rd car

Dont worry, I know the value of the car is not that high but the fact that I drive it means it has a far higher value than normal

Sounds Alarming in Newcastle fitted mine. IIRC it was £150 for a Cat 1.

Toad do basic alarms, the 101 and 201CL, I would expect around 160-180 fitted

Micky, Toad cat 1 alarms are around £130 without fitting and take around 4-6 hours to fit properly, are you sure it wasn't £250?

It wasn't a Toad alarm, my car was with them for about 5 hours or so, though.

You might be right about it being £250. I can't remember, it was 6 years ago.
