Turbocharged engines suffer from boost escaping past the piston rings, the more boost the worse it can get, this presurises the crankcase which can spit oil into the inlet and intercooler, a catch can system stops this happening as the oil breather is re rooted to the new can which vents to atmosphere insted of into the inlet charge
just in case you wanted to know

This way the can collects the oil into catch can as it passes through, and only means the hot gas goes into the engine, and not the oil.

cheers guys, so the link jura put up is the option to go for then ?
I need to purchase a new inlet hose as yet again my standered one has split, i have never fitted a silicon hose to either of the imprezas i have owned for fear of it sucking itself to death.
Spooks is selling some inlet hoses that have no spouts on them and as im not running a DV with my VF48 and fmic on simtek.
Was just wondering my options to fit a catch can with the above said hose.

My Roger Clark one is about the size of a Rugby ball.......I was told that they need to be that sort of size and design to actually "catch" the oil. I think it's about 2.5 litres ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Nope but the bottom will unscrew, I have one in my garage from my old car inlet has a length of hose pipe to take it lower into the can, and the can is filled with plastic chain, which gives the surface area to catch the oil on, and it does work. Not as effective as a real one, but for £20 did the job, and I`m yet to fit it to the Scoob.

If it can be taken apart and modified to work properly then great - or get the biggest size possible like Shaun.
