Red face MONTHLY FUEL COSTS?

We all know these things like a drink, but b*gger me, it's terrifying when you add all that V-Power up at the end of the month isn't it!

A sip here and a sip there, then before you know it... £548 over 30 days.

Sweet Zombie Jesus...

Anyone able to beat that?

A fair old way this month - just under 2500 miles in fact, so it's my own fault!

Still, averaged around 28mpg with a mix of spirited runs and long motorway cruises.

I use the Scoob as my everyday car and tend to do around 23,000 miles a year, so around £5500 - £6000 on fun juice over 12 months.

Hence my recent thread regarding getting a diesel runaround and retiring the Scooby to occasional use... A bit late to think of it some might say!

Have considered LPG conversion, but reckon it will be more beneficial for me to get a diesel grief-box to smoke around in; not only does it save fuel costs for me, my missus can also benefit when I'm on one of my numerous jaunts out of the country. And it keeps me from putting miles on the Scooby.

The owner of my local Shell garage will be gutted though, he's just bought another Bentley to keep at one of his Italian villas...

Ah, but for my £548 a month I have ownership of a lovely detached property with 5 doors, plentiful accommodation for up to five adults, fully fitted with air con throughout and commanding spectacular views of wherever I happen to be driving towards!

Even got a garden in the boot from my last trip down the tip.

Fill the greenwagon up once every 6-8 weeks £75 for 250 miles per tanksn

Fill the wrxd up normally twice a month at £78 per tank which gives me 500 per tank

So about £210-£220 per month

- When I bought an Integrale Evo back in 1999 I got it back home on a Friday evening... Cue me constantly out in it from that night through till Sunday evening (only stopping for food/drink/bed). £372 spent on unleaded... within 72 hours!!! Not bad really, as if it was an Impreza................................!!!

- I only live 5.5 miles form work which is 220 miles a month, which is pretty much one fill up of c.47 litres = only £67 a month! (That's not including SD&P usage though.)

this thread has made me think....
im wondering wether the bad fuel consumption is due to spark plugs not being changed at regular intervals?

joz...you mentioned about replacing yours recently with the better pfr7bs and this is probably the reason for your "good" fuel consumption.
could be very significant in the "world of the spark plug".

wonder wether the op is also getting irratic idle?

Spark plugs? What are they?

Are they under that big flap on the front? Never opened that...

My consumpton hasn't changed because of the recent spark plug change/major service. Although new ones will no doubt help etc.

My consumption is not great, but also not bad - average I'd say...

I used to get about 240 miles (mixed driving, not much hooning) on c.47 litres on the OEM VF28 setup. Now, with all my mods fitted/remapped (see My Garage), I'm now seeing anything between 200-220 miles on the same c.47 litres. But the car has gained c.85bhp in the process - or 31% more powerful over stock - so not so bad when you put it like that.

To be fair, I guess there are plenty of performance cars out there that would struggle to get close to 28mpg, never mind carry 5 people and a bootful of stuff.

...and yes, I am just trying to make myself feel better!

Another depressing thread.....

Im quite fortunate in the fuel department, I have a 1.5 diesel family bus, and we dont travel very far through school days, and I now car share one week about to work to save on the V-power pocket.

With methanol being as cheap as 60p per litre I wounder what my car would run like on 100% Meth, **** the LPG

Rob
