Sorry I got sidetracked
Will give you an update after 30 mins.
Probably was I was going to split the alternator to make it easier but aside from the four bolts holding the sides together, how the hell do you get the large nut on the pulley out ? It is seized solid and I assume you need to take that out to separate the two halves ?

If you can find a way to hold the pulley (cloth and vice or large water pump pliers) then you could try a socket on a bar and hit the bar with a hammer to shock it off. I have removed them without impact guns but it's not the easiest way. Maybe a friendly tyre fitter open nearby, they'll buzz it off for you.

Well couldnt get the nut and pulley off so will leave that for later. In the meantime I have done around 40 mins on it all told and its getting there. Might need a dremel for the little fiddly bits.
Havent started to polish it yet

A little bit at a time and eventually you will have a good base to 'keep' clean rather do a major clean all the time. It works believe me.
But I know what you mean, there is a fine line between wanting a clean car and having OCD

Yeah that's a good way to look at it, but i don't have time for it now, the cars got too much dirty/grease all over, maybe one day if i ever get a new chassis
Do you keep the underneath clean and all?
Thanks
Sam

I may like to keep the car clean but I draw the line at something like that. My last scoob and this one are handled the same. Clean up top, bottom can do what the hell it likes
If it rusts from ground up so be it

Have a look at my website
http://www.polishedswiss.com/
It may give you some pointers on how to start and once you get it half decent, maintaining it is a lot easier believe me.
