Default Where to get a race spec Impreza shell?

Where would i look for a classic Impreza race spec shell, no seal, just metal, paint and seam welds?

Thanks

Thanks

Why not jut do it to your own one?

For instance look at WRC Imprezas for example, each one of them came off of the production line as a standard STi before being shipped to Prodrive and completly stripped and rebuilt using the same chassis into WRC cars.

It's not something i'm looking to buy as of now unless the right one at the right price came up, but what i'm thinking is that my shell a UK 2000 has under seal, seal in the seams and sound deadening.

I've alreadt started removing the sound deadening and and all the interior, just i'll never get all the seal and under seal unless i get it dropped in acid.

One day owning a shell with nothing but paint and metal with seam welds would be great.

Surely the WRC cars were free from deadinging and so on.

Thanks

WOW!

Is the classic Prodrive S6 the only race shell available? I'm guessing this is the one RCM use.

Thanks

Most would do it themselves as i think it works out a lot cheaper, didn't look at prices but i'd bet there is not much change from 5k.

You can pick up a shell for around 1/1.5k and do the rest yourself for ish 1k if your not in a hurry.

Welding is not difficult, with a bit of practice you will be decent by the time you have used 1 5kg roll of wire.

My first youth training scheme was in a welding shop and with a little direction you will be quite capable of producing the kind of welds required to do a cage and seams with a £250 mig welder from machine mart.

Just a thought if your a handy person.

Otherwise you will need very deep pockets to get a full race spec car together

It's not the welding, it's all the sealer around the shell in the seams, it's everywhere and impossible to get to in some places unless you tear it apart, it's really stuck in them seams lol.

Thanks

but how much does the extra sealer in the seams weigh? Might be more cost effective to get some lighter wheels (or whatever else)

Yeah but you know it's just there lol.

Can you still seam weld with sealer in the way, i assume it will just burn it out the way.

Thanks

No it will definitely need removing if you're going to weld it. It will vaporize and contaminate your weld, otherwise. With mig or stick you can probably get away with a little bit of "crud" left (mig less so than stick), but most of it definitely has to come out if you're doing any welding.

Darn, think i'll stiffen it up with a cage and other stiffening products.

Thanks

OP: you cant.

Subaru didnt make any cars without seal for either their domestic or for export markets. If you want a proper shell then you need to buy one (or a whole car), have it dipped, seam weld it and then weld in a multi-point cage.

Thats going to cost proper money.

They must have, otherwise seam welding would have been an issue.

Thanks

I was in the same boat as you, once I weight up all the options/time it worked out cheaper to buy a shell already done (Classic) which I did, at the time I inquired about the GRD shell but at the time it was out of my budget at the price james is selling it now its a bargain plus he has a lot of running gear to go on it.

What shell did you buy?
Any photos?

I'm happy to keep working my shell, just was curious really, i would love a rally shell one day considering they don't have sealer on them lol.

Thanks

As Martyn refuses to diet, we've had a couple of chaps pulling parts off his classic shell all week. I'm now sick of the chiselling noises, but they've got a huge amount of weight off it!
