I know the bloke who is selling through work and since hes had it (4 years) when turning tight at low speed it makes a knocking noise that comes from the rear diff and also sounds like its coming from the front aswell. He took it back to the garage who he bought it off and they said it was fine he then took it to A.G. motor engineers at york who also said its fine and perfectly normal for the sti. Its good a massive service history mostly done at A.G. motor engineers. Do you think i should be concerned or is it just an sti thing, it doesnt do it when cold just when its warmed up there was no other noises from the box or diffs when driving.
Thanks.

The diffs shouldnt clunk at low speed, this is either wear, low oil levels or incorrect/old diff oil.
Its not normal and I would suggest the boys at AG motors change the oils to the correct one as indicated in the handbook to see if it cures the problem.

This happened on my first haweye sti and I was told by 3 different garages that it was normal for an sti. Was particularly evident when taking a slow left turn on almost full lock. I only had the car 6 months though so don't know if it would have got worse. My second hawkeye sti didn't do it at all though.
When I investigated this before I saw a number of posts saying changing the diff oil would help.

Its done 78k not as stated on ebay, I dont think the cars had a wax for quite a while he is 64 with bad knees so would be a major chore for him, could of paid for it to be done tho.
Anyways Ive decided to buy it and after speaking to him again about it Ive managed to knock another £250 off the agreed price so fingers crossed its a cheap fix and I end up with a bargain.
I spoke to David at API and he can supply a brand new viscous coupling for £400 and I recon a second hand diff will be about the same so all I have to do is diagnose the problem and fit the part, in theory anyways.
