Default Towbar has to be fitted

Hi guys,

I need to fit a towbar to my gb270, its ok I am not towing a caravan just towing my motorbike trailer.

Does anyone know of an invisible detachable towbar. I can find a company that will fit a detachable one (towequipe) but its not invisible.

If you have a detachable one can you please post a pic so I can see what it looks like. And let me know what make you have.

Thanks.

Have you looked at Witter towbars,

This is the detachable version, which is probably about as invisible as you will get

The one on my BMW is a Brink. Nice and stealthy

The only word of warning is keep the non-removable part well oiled with a protective grease thats not too sticky (like waxoyl). As I've problems with the bar locking to place properly due to rust gumming it up, and if its a sticky grease it gets covered in crud.

KEETS Towbar Systems, they're in Northampton, 01604 660363, Mob 07881 802915 or find their website. They fitted my detachable Witter Swan-neck,dual electric sockets, £385. It's the swan-neck which detaches, easy quick, weighs approx 10kg and a rubber plug re-fits over the base. Single electric socket would come out cheaper. It's quality kit.

I have a Witter detachable on my bug which I'm about to take off! All you can see is the electrics socket - but I could have hidden this, and the socket the swan neck fits in, You could unbolt it each time to make it more hidden.

Avoid cheaper bars if your planning to fit it yourself, i use to fit them for a living and the cheaper the bar the more of a nightmare they are to fit! Almost to the extent some of the cheapest bars dont even line up with the correct holes by up to 25mm! Also check out PCT bars, use to have a bit of a shocking rep but have now overtaken some of the more expensive bars in terms of welds and quality!

My hawkeye has a detachable tow bar and a Racebox rear silencer. Not sure what model the bar is but i'll check for you. I have no use for it myself either so if i can work out how to remove it i'll be putting it up for sale.

You may be being given the 'official line' on this ... as I have a larger than standard Milltek 3" pipework and backbox .. and the Witter bar fitted fine to my MY05 Blobeye STi so that I could put a bike rack on ... although there is no official towbar recommended/listed for it.

Suggest you ring round to check with other fitters whether they have done any for your model .. the fitter I used has done quite a few and so was confident that it would fit. ..

To be fair to Towequipe (large fitter) i took the car in and they showed me the problem. The prodrive exhaust has a very large backbox and this is the problem as the fitting rails would foul the box. Dont want to change my backbox so we are going to fit a towbar to my wifes A5 when it arrives in a month or so. Rear defusser here I come.
