As above. All the hallmarks of a scam. The easiest way is to chat with a potential buyer on email, then the phone. If they want the car they cam come to you and pay in cash, over the counter at your bank. Genuine people will be happy to do this. I think in this day and age it's to easy to forget electronic transfers etc are not as safe as you first think. Cheques can also be rejected after appearing to clear. Cash is king.

I would personally run as well.
The import garage where I get my cars from has also had this happen where he was sent much more money than the cost of the car.
There was one though that seemed a scam but came out all right though.
A couple of months ago when I picked up my scooby from there, there was an Evo 9 he had up for £15000.The day I was there he said to checkout this email he received about the Evo.It was along the lines of,

I would like to purchase the evo 9 you have for sale.I work at sea and have an agent that will arrange collection and the car would be going to new Zealand to be prepared and used for rallying.I would like to pay by paypal.

He played along to see what happened as his security at the garage is insane so he wasn't worried.
The guy paid as he said he would the correct amount.
I popped in there a few weeks later and he said it had gone to new Zealand and recently the bloke that bought it sent him some pictures of the car in action and was well chuffed with the car.

I'm glad there wasn't a bet on because I'd have put a tenner down on it being a scam.

Danny.

Paypal offer very little protection (they've been on Watchdog countless times where people have sold cars and Paypal refuse to help out) so yes I would be dubious. If they were interested they would come in person to view the car, hand over a cheque, wait for it to clear in your bank and then drive it away, or do a same day bank transfer down at your bank, with you with them, getting confirmation by the clerk that all is complete. Private sales for big sums are risky. Hence only cheque (cleared cheques) or same day bank transfer are methods I'd accept. Unless you see the money in your bank account never hand over the keys or any other information.

In 6 months time though the fuzz will visit to say it was paid with stolen funds & they need to take it back ...
