im not sure if thats true or not ? i think its because of the longer pipework that people think this . i know you wont really have any benefits from a front mount unless your over 400+bhp ! i think sti topmount is good for even more than that actually
but they do look the part

Depends on your plans. The first mod I fitted was a FMIC to my bugeye STi, yes it made it laggy on standard setup a tubular manifold improved things a bit. But when I got it tuned ie, 3" APS cat exhaust, fuel pump and GEMS ECU (this was back in 2004 when EcuTek was in early days) that gave me 360 bhp. Fitted new turbo, injectors and gone for a 3,5" de-cat exhaust now at 440 bhp. Looking next year at rebuild so looking at the 500 bhp mark.
The benefits of a FMIC are better cooling, I have read that a STi TMIC is good for around 400 bhp (don't slate me if mis read.) but I have also read that the scoop becomes in efective on TRACK Days at above 100 mph hence the number of blown engines after a high speed test. The only issue is with the MAF sensor, I normally run a GEMS ECU which uses a MAP sensor so no problem. If you want to run a FMIC with a MAF probably fitting it between the FMIC and the throttle housing is best. Due to turbulence after the induction kit if left in the standard position.

As long as the turbo isn't miniscule and the fmic is an efficient one, then once mapped by a good mapper, you should have no real lag. Although i suppose throttle response isn't going to be as good as it would be with a tmic, then again, there will be little difference.
