Yes but it will require a remap, and also supporting mods to get the best out of it i.e. walbro fuel pump, injectors, intercooler etc.

Usual route for upgrading the WRX bug Turbo is the matching STi turbo the VF 35 (or the VF 30 of the original jap Bug STi).

More expensive is the roller bearing VF34 and cheaper is the front entry TD05 16G.

All the above go well with the above suggested mods reaching 330 BHP

The VF28 powered the STi 5/6, I'm not sure when and if they stopped manufacture but later second hand VF35's etc should have less miles in them..

The VF series were essesntially "throw away" and as far as I am aware there were no official recon kits made (outside of taiwan).

All IMHO

VF28 is a great turbo, had one on my MY99 Classic. It made 320/300 & pulled like a train, till the big ends went!

......on a 99 classic would make the Turbo 12 years old if it was still pulling like a train

Excellent Turbo, I've managed to wring the neck out if one and get 360bhp out of it but that was an exceptional result.

330 is the norm and they are an incredibly responsive turbo. Certainly worth a punt.

I'm not saying it's a poor turbo.......just that it's likely a bit easier to find a more modern turbo in better nick or in the case of the TD05 remanufactured / refurbished
