Question

hi all
i have just fitted pipercross cone filter and have a question.
i think its the dump valve but not sure, but it wooshes on acceleration(plus induction noise)and then ppshooo's on gear change.
sounds great' but is it right?i think it is venting but i'm not in the know.also it vents on part throttle at 2-3000 revs.
i had a milltek back box fitted at the same time(lovely deep burble),should i now get anything re-set,i.e. in the old days you would have your carbs re-jetted or whatever.maybe the ecu does it all automatically?

any help appreciated

Thumbs up

Fitted a HKS induction kit to mine at Christmas and had the same results as you. Everybody says that it is normal and that it is the std dumpvalve venting to atomsphere that you can here. Sounds good but have you noticed any extra performance. No need to re-set because its fitted before the airflow meter. Correct me if wrong guys!

Cool

Hi

Fitted a K&N Induction to my MY97. Noise is normal and as you say, it's venting.

ENJOY

Cheers

Induction Kits...fantastic.

I have a K&N 57i for sale (tis from my MY97 turbo which has been replaced with a MY00)... it was on the car for about 4000 miles and won't fit the new one.

Anybody want to purchase ?

Also...

vent to atmos Bailey style blow off valve...make me an offer...again won't fit MY00 (and possibly MY99) due to BOV being attached direct to intercooler (bugger!)

Cheers

The sound is normal for an induction kit. Basically, you're hearing the turbo suck in air when you press the loud pedal and the result of the dumpvalve opening when you change gear.

The dump valve is of a recirculatory type, so it returns air to a point between the filter and the turbo impeller; no wonder you can hear it :-) The OEM airbox does a rather good job of deadening the sound!

Cheers,

Pat.

Sound isnt there with panel filter. I have a wrx import and fitted an STI panel filter and all i could hear was the Dump Valve.

I agree, no difference in sound with a panel filter as you still have the resonator box on - you can of course remove that, there's a post on here somewhere from corradoboy explaining how he did this. However I was told that doing this could reduce the airflow - so I'm still looking into it.

Apparently if fit a decat downpipe the turbo spool-up (breath in noise) is quite a bit louder too.
