Default Knocking under hood

Hi, i've a knocking sound comimg from under the bonnet more towards the right, drivers side. I thought it may have been the heat shield for the turbo so removed that (had to also take off the intercooler to get to it). The noise is still there, it only happens sometimes, 3 or 4 small knocks and only when turning engine off, fine when turning ignition on and ideling. Does anyone have any ideas of what's causing this? Thanks

Possible worn engine mount??? Give your engine a shake to see if it moves excessively. Sure its not your exhaust knocking somewhere? Try getting someone else to turn it off while you get your head under the bonnet. Look underneath the engine also when doing this. Good luck buddy, hope you find it soon.

Thanks mate. I've been looking for excessive movement in engine but seems ok when revving. Slight bit of movement but I think that's normal. Have looked under bonnet when takng ignition off but can't hear anything, only when i'm sat in the drivers. If mount, how big of a job? Is it costly?

The exhaust downpipe and steering column knuckle joint are in very close proximity, just below the turbo outlet. It could be this just knocking together slightly at switch off. The sound would be transmitted to the drivers seat through the steering column so you would probably not hear it under the bonnet.

Ahh! I've noticed them being very close, that could be whats it is. Will check in the morning. Any way of altering?

Make sure the downpipe to gearbox bracket is ok and bolted.
