Default h&s 'centre' a decat or not?

Going through the history on my car that i've recently bought, invoice from Hayward & Scott reads

To Supply 1x Jap Style backbox for a classic
To Supply 1x Centre pipe for a classic
Now this exhaust is fookin loud and has got me wondering if the 'centre pipe' is a decat? a friend with a v5 sti has a back box only exhaust but the difference in noise and general throatyness is phenominal....any ideas?

Yes mate the centre pipe gets rid of the centre cat. That'll be why it's louder than your mates.
H+S do make a resonated centre pipe if it's too loud.I think it's about £102 for the centre and an extra £80 ish for the cat.

Thought the standard centre pipe contains a silencer (resonator), not a cat.
Well it does on a newage, classic may be different?

The resonator kills a lot of the noise as the name suggests. A non resonated centre pipe would make it louder. I think most some companies do a resonated and a de-resonated SS centre pipe. Not sure about H&S but would imagine yours is the straight de-resonated type.

That is also why this pipe and a backbox is called a Cat Back system.
Like I say could be different on a classic so someone may correct me.

Yeah it is just a resonated section on the classic. Most people refer to it as a centre cat for some reason.
To the op how loud is your's with the straight through pipe?
I'm looking at getting the same system but can't decide on the resonated centre or not.Is it too loud?

Mr Moff - on par with another lads that's running a 2.5 with 3" nurspec from the turbo back - but when his turbo kicks in it's not funny lol

seems there's two views on this 'centre' pipe, one cat is on the downpipe...where's the other?

depends on the age of the car, some later UK classics ran a centre cat pipe particuarly JDM cars didn't but had a similiar looking resonated centre...........

if the box is a Jap style set-up then this on its own can cause a lot of noise difference....

Post a pic from underneath the car mate and we will be able to give better idea of what pipe you got.
