i bet you killed it on the bends i spent over 12k on building my old golf and i thought that was quick just over 350bhp but even with the full billy kit and braces still could not get the power down in the bends or in a strait line my scooby killed it noting fwd can cope with over 220bhp without handling like a dog

I had a Calibra Turbo for a while, best engine (and car) Vauxhall ever made IMHO but still a Vauxhall.

Surely a Corsa with a red top turbo lump would literary rip apart after prolonged use ? That and never get off the line, using two new front tyres every day

I also loved the calibra but they were terrible round corners even with the 4 wheel drive and that was if it still had 4 wheel drive coz the transfer box hadn't died but still like the look even today

Not quite a Corsa but a Nova - beat me in my 4x4 cossie powered Opel Manta (I was running around 330bhp). He was running a Calibra turbo lump circa 300BHP and about 2/3 of my weight. Mad bit of kit!

i dont know maybe it's my hate of vaxhall or maybe it's just the fact they're **** but i dont see the point in putting big power in cars that cant take it. what is the point in spending all that on a corsa when you could build a scoob for the same price i remember thinking to my self wile watching top gear when they said they could beat a evo x for half the money why i you got a early sti

i got a mate that keeps saying he wants a race against me in my scoob. he just bought a fabiia 1.9tdi, and thinks it will beat me, also he has had 1.6 mk6 escorts and all that. its just the immature mentality that kicks in. they all think they can beat anything

I have to disagree. My friends Megane R26R has 227 bhp handles amazing as standard. On trackdays it,s been awesome.

Never ever be too cocky!! There will always be another car that is faster than you. With no 4wd power loss, fast fwd can easily embarass us through the gears once rolling..

ahhh the age old subaru blinkers discussion again

remember my first scoob back in 2005, it was a 54 plate wrx with ppp and i thought i was king of the road then proceeded to get embarrased by all sorts of cars. from a 40 roll a mondeo st220 pulled away, focus rs with different actuator spring and bluefin gained an easy 3 car lengths. Even though i'd convinced myself for weeks they "caught me off boost"

i currently own a classic wagon with td05 16g, 3 inch system etc approx 310bhp, and i also own an ek9 with b18c (1.8 teg engine) and i can comfortably say the civic will keep up with the scoob all day long. handling on the civic is just as good if not better than the subaru. remember grip with awd is different to a good handling chassis.

Theres a lad at work with a stripped out clio 182, running tb's and even this car can be all over sti's like a rash at knockhill.

just look at some of the videos on youtube trackdays where integras, civics etc are an even match for subarus.

1.6 na ek9 vs wrx
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdptyyk-srg

all standard cars i believe in this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-kXXHDc6Yw

what you have to bear in mind is the teg is 1.8 and the ek9 is 1.6 compared to 2.0 turbo of the type r.

why not check out nurburgring times for standard cars against each other you'll be surprised that an ek9 can do it just as quick as an sti!!

Yes there will always be cars fasters than yours...unless you own a GTR with a Cobb tune.

Anyway some cars can be really quick but handle like cr@p...in fact to have it optimised for going down the 1/4 will mean it will just want to land in a ditch around a twisty...that is especially true for fragile FWD hatches.

That's because they nicked the fantastic wishbone concept originally thought up by Renault that induces neg camber as you turn.

The standard exhaust system on them sounds sweet too!

I had a corsa leave my car, but then I wasn't expecting it to accelerate away We drove out of a 20mph zone into a dual carriage way. I was just about to accelerate and the corsa was off.
I was laughing at the fact he thought he was racing me and I couldn't drive fast as I had my missus in the car yet 500 yards up the road he had slowed down to wait for me. Yet again he was off but the traffic was too busy for me to pass him. I accelerated close to him only using 5th gear but they way he moved off I would guess he was in 2nd gear
If it makes him happy to think he left an impreza then I have been told his car is around 360bhp but even with the lighter car there is no way on earth it could be quicker than mine

The new M5 is coming with about 550 bhp, that is an astonishing amount of power. Just a few years ago Japanese manufacturers had a gentlemens agreement of 250 bhp...so it put it into perspective.

No way can 'normal' drivers handle that sort of power to the rears, but then you have lots of stability control/driver aids now. Still I am surprised what with this country being so 'elf and safety etc that we're allowed cars like the new M5 on the road.

Thats very true indeed... Putting more power on already well setup FWD car is not a good idea, unlsess you do mod every other "corner" of the car, specialy to hondas . Just my thoughts, Its not all about the power, even with AWD, a car with smart chassis mods will be faster than the car with just a lot of power.

I had a Corsa C on my bumper a few weeks back, got to a clear stretch of road and floored it and he was still there...

Pulled alongside him a bit further along and asked him what the **** he had under the bonnet, 2.0 turbo and 280bhp he said.

Very fast in a straight line. I'd have murdered him in the twisties though.
