Default Drilling holes in airbox?

I have read that drilling some holes in my airbox will improve air intake. However, it said that it could be noisy once this is done.

Has anyone done this? Is it really noisy or just a minor noise increase? Does it actually help the air intake or is it pointless?

Cheers

The newage intake system is pretty good, no point in mesing with it (apart from filter) unless you want the noise of an induction kit or are going for a lot more power

Cheers Shaun I am going for more power soon up to about 340-340bhp, running 270bhp currently. Just seeing if anyone else had done it. I have green panel filter in it already.

You will make the air intake significantly less efficient Would be like sucking through a straw with a hole in in not to mention any air that was taken in through the extra holes would be hot

You can remove the 'ram-air' scoop which runs from the front into the wing, and then in the wing there is the intake resonator (silencer) which can be got rid of. The air is then taken from the wing which is both cool and clean, and it's up to you how you get extra air into there. I opened up a flap to the underneath of the arch lining, and opened up the 'fake' grilles to the side of the foglight when I did mine. Never did a rolling road run to see if there was any additional power, but the turbo spooling and DV venting was much more audible. A bit of rubber door sealing strip to make a seal around the airbox where it meets the wing is a good idea too. Do a search for 'snorkelectomy' or 'resonator' and there's plent of discussion about it. I believe Harvey tested this on a classic and found it upset the airflow, so it might not be worth doing really.

* Warning * Direct ducting into the airbox from the front of the car, especially from low down can allow too much water, dirt, oil, diesel etc into the intake, overwhelming the filter and allowing filth into the intake system. The MAF sensor can then be ruined, and if it fails, it can take the engine out.

These are the bits you can dispose of....

(not including the pot plant)

Then seal up the holes so heat and dirt can't get into the wing, and source some airflow into the wing from outside.
