Great for a side impact, next car will have a rear sliding door for your wheelchair best case or nice wood flat bed for your coffin.

I think that's a brilliant idea. Very clever. But is the hight of a can high enough?

Blimey that's a good idea. Not so happy about raising the car up so much but it's so cool.

Good, until you park on rough ground and end up with huge scratches where the door impacts on the ground.

How rouch is the ground going to be?

You'd have to be in 7" ruts to do that.

im sure? not looked into the tech details but a clearance sensor would do the trick, i not saying we should all rush out and buy some (they probably cost the earth anyway) like the gull wing and lambo doors a rather nice idea

lol that is mad, looks good though, definitely different. Looks so futuristic too but as mentioned it must be expensive.

Not at all! Have you never parked in a field etc? Quite often bits of broken branches on the ground..........

Still looks cool though.

If you look carefully the doors don't protrude beneath the car at all, they go into the sill and between the chassis supports. It does depend on the type of car and would work better on taller pseudo-off roaders rather than old Lincoln Town Cars as used on the prototypes.

As pointed out- side impact? Old 1970s full size yank saloons were of course noted for their stiff safety cell designs I believe?

Well they actually protrude less than normal doors so I'd say the damage would be less.

looking at when that was filmed it certainly did not catch on.

Surely it would weigh a ton too.

It does look pretty cool mind
