Default equal vs unequal length headers...

ok, nugget question time..ive heard from a subaru mech that the JDM cars with equal length headers do not have the distinctive subaru burble..is this true??
ive been toying with buying a JDM but the thought of not having that signature burble is keeping me awake at night

I have a JDM import and mine has un-equal length headers, but mine is OLD.

What year you looking at in particular??

But yeah Equal length gets rid of the burble, as its the difference in length that makes the gasses arrive in lumps making the burble

2005 JDM onwards use equal length which reduces that burble.

I prefer the equal length sound. The burble always sounds un-balanced and "inefficient" (if a sound can be described as inefficient).

The JDM's from 03 onwards have the equal length manifold and twin scroll setup and sounds like a super bike above 6k revs

Yeah I was toying the idea with a new shape JDM but got put off due to the loss in soundtrack as its whats drew me into the Subaru fold many years ago.

The twin scroll cars actually sound much nicer than you think don't be put off buying one because it has no burble, if you want burble then get a vw beetle (early air cooled one)
A new age jdm car is probably the best out of the box subaru you can get

I went from uk to jdm and must say the advantages far outweigh the loss of burble

I think the inequal length manifold is one of the best characteristics of the older Impreza turbos. To me, the equal length makes it sound like any old JDM car with a huge can on it.

Tim, I can never distinguish if it's a scoob or a Harley davidson (or other cruiser type bike), atleast the twin scroll jdm has a distinctive sound to it I've been told it sounds more like a scoob rally car than an unequal length manifold car

Your in danger of loosing your credability on this site, unless of course your going deaf.

To not be able to distinguish the famous scooby burble from a harley is a kinn to admitting you can't hear Jimmy

If any of you who have never driven or owned a jdm do try driving one, i doubt you would dislike it in any way at all.

Actually from a distance and considering a standard exhaust on a scoob doesnt make any burble, a LOUD exhaust on an unequal length manifold scoob does sound similar to that of a harley or similar cruiser type bike (though harley's are 2 stroke so make a very distinctive burble themselves )
Still if you want burble then you cannot beat the sound of a flat 6 porsche

Having had both, I think the sound of the JDM Newage at high revs is hard beat especially when it starts to scream on boost.

each to there own but I love the sound of my twinscroll but also love the burble of uk cars, but taking overall package into account the jdm wins me over it doesn't even feel quick to drive the power delivery is that smooth. Only gripe on the jdm is the standard exhaust is to quiet but that's easy to put right

Oh dear!.........Most of that clip showed a bog ordinary looking STi badly parked outside what appeared to be either a Dole office or the local magistrates court, followed by stupid speeds and noise on urban (possibly suburban, so not QUITE as bad?) roads. Let me say that's a rather misleading example of Essex Scoob owners

Really old Harley are two stroke but that is going back decades.

The burble is from being a 45 deg V twin with uneven firing intervals.
