Exclamation DECENT VFM SOCKET SETS...???

Can anyone recommend any?

Criteria:-

* 30+ pieces (50-100 bracket, even better lol)

* Decent quality hardened sockets, etc.

* Case MUST have decent catches so that it CANNOT open accidentally. A cheap one (all plastic) did just that and I have lost half the sockets down the open sides of the boot lol.

* Not stupidly expensive.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Halfords do a good range of socket sets. Get a trade card and they will be dirt cheap.

I'm sure there will be a set to suit you perfectly.

Yeah, if there's one thing Halfords are good at, it's their tools section (oo-er).

Cheers - think I'll take a mosey on over there on Sat.

Anymore for anymore...?

I've had a Halfords professional socket set bought for me by the fadder in law about ten years ago, still in pristine condition. (Yes, it has been used!) The ratchet works perfectly both ways after years of use.

What do you do for a job? If it is vaguely engineering, technical take some proof of employment and they will give you one there and then. I am an IT Tech in the RAF and they gave me one without any issues whatsoever.

They are so worth it for oil, consumables and tools.

We design and produce holographic imagery (I'm a, ahem, 'Creative Technologist' - a glorified graphic designer/computer operator, between you and me lol). But our other site has all the hardware in, which most definitely requires tools to build, upkeep, etc. So I can easily mention that side of the business (I can say that I operate the step'n'repeat hardware, for example...)

Yes! Get a pamphlet to show what you 'do' and payslip. They will issue you one there and then. Saving starts ASAP!

On average, what sort of % do you get off? Or does it vary wildly, dependent on what products you buy/how many, etc.?

The amounts really do vary, there is no rhyme or reason to it. I bought Mobil 1 oil at £33ish, down from their price of £48. A breaker bar at nearly half off, and an oil change box down from £7 to £4.50.

I know it sounds mad but try Snap on as their Blue Point stuff is really good quality and a mate of mine got a set of 1/4,3/8 &1/2 with most of the socket/breaker bars & ratchets you could want for £100. Most of the times I have been able to a deal with them aswell.

i nearly forgot about my trade card (got it because i kicked off because i couldn't return a £20 part with receipt 2 hours after handing over £2000 cash)

I've just been and bought drivers wipers for the impreza Ticket price was £16 - got them for £6! halfords own mind as they have bigger profit margins to play with...the bosch ones came from £20 to £16.
With the trade card it's nei-on their cost price...which is good.

I'd go with Halfords, lifetime guarantee on their advanced range of tools, they're made Signet. You must keep your receipt thought to make a claim under their warranty.

Halford Professional (now "Advance" and Advance professional i think) are excellent value for money and they really doo offer a no quibble lifetime warranty. I's good reliable and tough. I think there was an offer on socket sets the other week, 50% off the bigger one - so you get it for £100... hope it's still on when you get there/.....
looking at their web site it is on still

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...k&iozone=PDPz1

enjoy the new tools
